This would not be necessary as most corneas come from organ donors and there is an over abundance that are out there that go unused from non-living donors. There is no shortage of harvestable corneas for most areas. So, living donors are not needed in most places.

At this point, we do not have the technology to use the entire eye in transplants...just the cornea. That is "harvested" from a dead person. While, in theory, a living person could donate an eye, I've never heard of it being done. Corneas are one of the most frequently donated tissue, and thankfully, since anyone can receive a cornea (unlike other tissues), there isn't much of a problem getting one if you need it.

not w/o ruining the donor's eye. the donor would lose THEIR ENTIRE EYE, not just the cornea.

so in theory it might be possible, but even if you didnt mind being one-eyed for the rest of time (??) i doubt you'd find a surgeon who would do this for you. hippocratic oath: firstly, do no harm.

besides...corneas are plentiful! there are plenty of corneas to go around. plenty of people expiring at the local hispital every day with healthy corneas. corneas dont have to be a "match"...they dont have to be typed & cross matched b/c there are no blood vessels in a normal cornea.

this is a terrible idea. give it up. if you think you know someone who needs a cornea, they're going to have to get it from a cadaver.

Theoretically, it is possible for a living person to donate the said cornea. But the donor would lose his depth perception: That's what we have two eyes for.

Try to live just one day with an eye closed, and I swear you will get the right answer... What I could say is that we can live with just an eye working, but it would'n be the same but, maybe you have reasons enough to do it.
