I'm a sophomore in college and don't think I'll have that much to spend on Xmas gifts this year.

However, I do have to get something really cool for my godson, who will be 2 years old.

I need ideas of places where I can get quality gift for less.

Thank you for your help!

fffgel - i have to get him something "really cool" because we're greek and in the greek culture, it is known that the godparent always gets their godchild a nice, expensive, special gift.

Cool to him is a cardboard box. However, you can find some good kids' toys on clearance at stores like Kohl's, Tuesday Morning, Baby Depot, Walmart, Target, etc. I'd start looking for clearance and sale items and buy as you go along. Rarely will there be toys on sale in December. I'd recommend getting Geo Trax, Imaginext, or Hot Wheels. One thing I did with my nephew last Christmas was to take him (at age 3) on a special date. I picked him up and we went and saw a kid movie at the theater, went out to lunch, and I let him pick his own present at the store. It could be a great tradition for you!

Check clearance racks and stuff at Walmart and Toys R Us. Last year, I got an InteracTV game system, and four games, for about 50 dollars total for my kids. There are no big THIS CAME FROM WALMART stamps on it, and it's the same stuff you can get for more money at other stores. Why do that???

Honestly, I don't see the point of having to get something really cool for a kid who would most likely be completely thrilled if you gave him a big box and a lot of tissue paper. Next year, or the year after, yeah, you'll have something to live up to, but regardless of your culture, the purpose of the gift ought to be to please the recipiant...

Ahhh, I got no room to talk. I just bought a darling dress for my three-month-old niece who, if the unstoppable weeing she does when she's nekkid is any indication, would rather be naked more than anything in the world........

Seriously what everyone else said was great but you dont want to give him a box that is just lame. I work for Target and am The toy department manager. There are some really cute toys that are made by Target called Kool Toys thay come in blue boxes and are the less expensive brand. Also they just started carrying Disney pbs and noggin toys for all different shows very affordable and every kid loves them. Otherwise at this time of year all retailer are coming out with their own brand of toys. But dont go Walmart their brand toys fall apart pretty fast. Sears Essentials had some really nice ones last year . wooden trains and stuff for like 10 dollars a set

1st - decide how much you want to spend. 2nd- go to wallyworld and spend that much on anything you want to give him. 3rd. Wrap it up in a cool box, because a 2 year old does not care about what is inside the box nearly as much as they want to unwrap it. 4. Ask mom and dad if it okay for you to get whatever you are getting, unless the gift is designed to torment mom and dad (like a noisy drum). If you get a noisy gift, do not be shocked to find that it did not make it home or if it gets lost.

Walmart is always a cheap place for anything and they have a great toy selection. Or, if you have an idea of what you want, try craigslist.org. Might find something cool on there.

It's Christmas, your Xing out the important part, and it's not about gifts. It's about Christ's birth.
Make sure the little one know the real reason for the season!!

Walmart or Toys R Us, be sure you get something age appropriate, all their toys will have age limits on the box. They have lots of stuff for kids that age.

Seriously - a 2 year old is way happy with boxes! Why do you have to get him something "really cool"?

I'd get him a box full of boxes...he can pile them up, make them into tunnels, all kinds of cool stuff. I actually did that when my daughter was 2 and she loved it. My ex-inlaws had the toy thing covered.

try ebay or check your paper for "mom swap" events - these are usually for clothes and furniture but you can meet people and tell them your predicament and they may be willing to sell you something gently used
