No, they prevent wars. The only reason the US and USSR did not go to war because both sides knew there would be no winner.

The USA has the most nukes and we keep war from breaking out by simply having them. So from an americans point of view no way.

I think that we Americans have too many Nukes and should reduce our overall number of nukes, by about two dozen. Then use those two dozen nukes on Iran.
