I ask with respect to the next President elected, will he or she be like Bush who support the stationing of US troops in Iraq?

Or this depend of the relationship between the President and the business tycoons since oil is involved?

We have been in Korea for 50, both Germany and Japan for 65.
Unless they kick us out (like Vietnam did) we will be there forever.

I think troops will be there for the next four years. Who ever is the next will not do a rapid pull out. They know what it would cause. They will pull out symbolic numbers and have the bulk of the troops gone by primary season for the 2012 elections.

I doubt if our boys will stay in Iraq for that long. The way it's looking we're going to elect a democratic president, and all of the democratic candidates are against the war. So, I doubt if we'll be in Iraq for that long. I'd say maybe 3 to 5 more years, if that.

Like Tom said, we will be a presence there in some form for a very long time. We have permanent bases all over the world where we "protect our interests" and I do not believe Iraq will be any different.

It's not going to depend so much on the Oil as it will the other companies. Did you know that our VP is the prior CEO of KBR? KBR provides ALL the services out here. From food to cleaning to repairs. There are hands deep in these pockets.

The Americans have just announced the withdrawal of 30,000 troops so I doubt they will be there in any great numbers for much longer.

We don't buy Iraqi oil, nor do american companies have any interest in Iraqi oil fields outside of equipment sales, so that part of your question is irrelevent.

Otherwise, ditto on what Tom said.

Probably for decades if you include the troops stationed at the embassy.
