Really seems possible to me.
I also think that vaccine reaction could be part of the problem, but I don't think it alone would account for the high increase in
diagnosed autistic children.

Lead can cause autism. So can vaccines. However, the reactions have to be traumatic in order to trigger autism. In other words, if your child becomes seriously ill from eating lead or if he gets a bad reaction from a shot, then he is in danger of developing autism. I have belonged to autism and asperger's syndrome discussion groups for five years now, and it's always the same story. One after another of the members report trauma in early childhood: cleft palate surgery, heart surgery, lung infections, "VATER", premature birth, caesarean birth, sexual assault, physical abuse, neglect, etc. You name it.

There are only three exceptions. Precociousness at birth makes one susceptible to autism. Also, 31 percent of all blind children develop autism. Also, If a child is born with a twin, he is susceptible to autism--especially if the twin is identical. This last fact has been noted by psychoanalysis for years and years. See the movie "Artificial Intelligence" which explores this issue--albeit in a strange and dream-like way.

Lead in toys are only part of the problem. The vaccines have other stuff in them like aluminium and formaldehyde. There are still some with traces of mercury in them. Formaldehyde was also found in some clothing. Flame retardants in pajamas, fabrics on sofas, and some electronic equipment are also poisoning our kids. Children with autism have low levels of glutathione, an antioxidant that takes care of the toxins. If you add up all the traces of metals and chemicals that we receive daily, its no surprise that autism is on the rise. My 5 yr. old son has mercury toxicity and some lead. I have no idea why the levels are so high, it had to come from the vaccines, toys, and some environmental exposure. The only way to get the lead and mercury out is through chelation. Young children should use the suppository form NOT the IV. The deaths from IV were due to the wrong form of the chelator and the doctor not supplementing the child with minerals. Unfortunately, if we do not get the lead out of our autistic kids, they will only continue to accumulate it in their bodies. Autism really is a complex disorder of the immune and gastrointestinal system.

It could be. I also know that the vaccines cause real bad allerigies and asthma,(and people claim thier child regresses into autism after certain vaccines) so I think it's all linked together. I think they are going to find out it's all link together. If they don't already know and are trying to cover it!

Lead has been linked to a number of neurological disorders. It wouldn't account for all cases of autism, but I don't doubt that it can account for some.

I think they are going to find out that autism is an autoimmune problem. Most kids with autism have severe allergies and/or asthma. There is also a link between autism spectrum disorders in boys whose moms have lupus.
