(ne-vé shal-om / waah-at i-sal-aam: Hebrew and Arabic for Oasis of Peace [Isaiah 32:18]): A village, jointly established by Jewish and Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel, that is engaged in educational work for peace, equality and understanding between the two peoples.
Last year, the residents of Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam enjoyed a rare opportunity. During the Jewish year 5766 and the Muslim year 1427, the month of Ramadan coincided with the festivals of Tishrei (the Days of Awe, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah). This gave residents and friends the chance to celebrate these holidays together. It was an ideal time for Doumia Sakinah to explore the commonalities between the two traditions, Muslim and Jewish, in relation to ideas of repentance and fasting, returns and beginnings, community and spirituality.

Would you like to do the same thing if you are given the opportunity this year? I would love to do that. It is so sad that we don't have Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam in every country.

It's a very nice fact, Mimi. Thank you for sharing with all of us. I hope more people in the Middle East will follow this inspiring example. I would love to have that opportunity too, Mimi. Chatima Tova (Good Signing in the Book of Life)!

Cheers Mimi, that's great - I'm sure that even if some people don't answer, just reading about this amazing project must have some good effect! Any decent human being would have to be touched and cheered and encouraged by what these Muslims and Jews are doing.

Todah robah = thank you in hebrew
