is the one who convinced Adam to eat the apple? Out of all the stories in the Bible these are the ones that bother me the most. It all sounds conveniently sexist doesn't it? Man came first and woman was created from man...woman then succumbs to temptation and drags man down with her...

The term rib is the translation of the Hebrew word tzalah and the Christian translations of the Bible all translate it to mean rib. But in the Artscroll translation of the Torah (one of the Jewish Translations of the 1st 5 books), it translates the word as side. Strong coded the word as Hebrew word 6763. There he gave the definition as:

From H6760; a rib (as curved), literally (of the body) or figuratively (of a door, that is, leaf); hence a side, literally (of a person) or figuratively (of an object or the sky, that is, quarter); arcitecturally a timber (especially floor or ceiling) or plank (single or collectively, that is, a flooring):

In verse 21 od Genesis 2, it says that God took and we translate the next word as one, but it is not the Hebrew word for the numeral one, but the Hebrew word for oneness, whole, or unified. It is the Hebrew word echad and it is seen when God said, "Hear O Israel, the Lord your God, the Lord is echad."

Now in verse 27 of Genesis 1, it says that God created man in His resemblence, and it says that God created male and female. The words "He him" and "He them" are not in the Hebrew but are are implied.

So both sexes were in one body, and then God opened up the whole side of the being and brought forth the female. So there is no sexsm as both were created at the same time in the same body. Now before you go further, imagine if you were stuck in the same body with a man. You might agree that it was best for the two to be seperated.

jimmeisnerjr: You are as wrong as wrong can be. I am a pastor, under the age of 60, and went to seminary. Eve is not the Hebrew word for woman. The Hebrew word for Eve is Chavah which means life. The Hebrew word for woman is ishah. You can not claim to be a pastor and say that the Bible is not the Word of God because then you are saying that John 1:1-14 is false. I study the Greek and I study the Hebrew, so I am looking at what the Word actually says and not through mans interpretations. You are a false teacher. Repent before it is everlastingly too late.

I believe that the rib contains all the DNA needed to create life. Isn't that what cloning is all about? I also believe that God is capable of creating whatever he desires.

As for the temptation, I think many of my brothers and sisters miss the boat on this one. The point isn't that Eve sinned first. Adam tries to use that excuse, but God rejects it. In fact, Eve uses this excuse when she blames the snake. This is part of the first sin is our willingness to blame others for our actions.

Both Adam and Eve sinned. Adam was there and didn't stop Eve. He didn't even remind her of God's words. He joined in the sin. They both were equally guilty.

Adam and Eve is a metaphor -- not literal history. It's poetic parable -- not the literal story of two people, for example.

A-Dam is Hebrew for Mud Man. Eve - is Hebrew for woman. This is a metaphorical story about the creation of the People of God . . . not a history book.

The Bible is a collection of 66 different books, some history, some poetry, some songs, some letters, as well as the rules of an ancient religion . . . written over the span of thousands of years. Problems arise when people can't tell one from another, and confuse them into each other.

Problems arise when you try to take a rule written for and by a certain group of people, and apply it to your life today (taking your disobedient child to the gates of the city to stone him, for example).

People tend to focus on the words in the Bible, and miss the message behind the story. The creation stories of Genesis 1 and 2, for example, are poetry, the message is that God is powerful, neither of which is a history lesson.

The Bible is a fantastic collection of stories written by, about, and for the followers of the God of Abraham, and the followers of Christ.

Of course the Bible isn’t THE WORD OF GOD . . . it’s translated into a language we can understand – Jesus didn’t speak English, for example.

But the Bible is God’s Word . . . meaning the message, not the medium or the method, is what God tries to tell us.

I'm a pastor in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.). Most churches with a pastor younger than 60 and who actually attended seminary can explain this in person.

Godspeed.

First off, Eve did not eat an apple. I don't know why people say it was an apple. Look in Genesis Ch. 3 vs. 6, it plainly states, "she took the fruit thereof." It does not say apple, it says fruit. To all those people who say apple, I say go back and read the bible. IT'S NOT AN APPLE! Also, as for Chippy, who says that it is always women's fault. Well, Chippy you are a male chauvinist. You are not a godly man, if that is the way you think. Here's your sign!

Snowbunny, I have no problem wiht Eve taken out of Adam as this is to demonstrate they are one creation. One creation proves there equality to God who is spirit and not flesh.
We too are all created in this image being more than flesh but also with an eternal spirit.
Our flesh also is the one that is tempted and we are to submit our flesh to our spirit.
Christ is the flesh of God and was in submission to the Father.

Don't have a problem with it.

If you read closer eve was tempted first then she tempted Adam. theirs was a in lying to good who already knew what had occurred but the lied any way. If you keep reading you will find that women start to play a More vital role in the Hebrew and christian religion.

No I don't. Adam had walked with God and talked with God before Eve was created , so he should have known better than her that it was wrong.

First... the greater sin was Adams for failing to do as God intended for Him and not being the proper Head as God intended and allowing Eve to do as she did.... as for the rest... God makes what He wants, in what ever manner He wants, and by any means He wants... God makes The Rules.... not man... or woman... play by God's Rules... or... ultimatly... you lose.
