First of all, try to find out where the lawyer's files went. Typically to a partner, but also sometimes the state takes them. Post to adoption registries in Tennessee since that is where you were born.

The Lawyer should still have papers even if they are packed away....I would also look into hiring a private eye they don't cost what they used to...you could probably find your birth mother for 100 dollars.......then you could also sign up for an adoption registry...if she is looking for you there will be a match!
Good Luck!

only very few states aloow you to get your original birth certificate without a court order. i am adopted and i found my birth siblings using a combination of classmates.com and ancestry.com after i got my birthmother's first and middle names, place she lived at the time i was adopted from seller's home in new orleans, and her date of birth. i already knew my "birth name" because it was on my final decree of adoption. get your non-ID info from state social services if you're not in one of the few states that allows you to get your original birth certificate and see if you can find clues from any info you can find including info from whomever took over your lawyer's files. unfortunately, the lawyer involved in my case (and all seller's cases) was 100% against searching and reunion so talking to them was like talking to a brick wall. good luck! you might also do a search for "search angels" in the state you think your birth mother might be in. in my case, i was born in new orleans but didn't have a clue my birth mother lived in oklahoma before she was sent to seller's home in new orleans so my birth siblings had no idea to check the registry in louisiana which does not search but will notify both sides if there is a match. there are adoption support groups on yahoo and i belong to several. join one that is appropriate for you and ask questions!

if you know your real name then you can write to the health department in that state and get your real birthcertificate. if you know the lawyers name try and find his relatives they may have records and help you. its worth a try. you can find out so much by heath standards. if you need for medical is good way. also call the social sercurity admin sometimes they can help if you tell them for health reasons. write or email there are so manythings to use this computer for keep trying i did and got mine.

If you know her name then try searching for her via the website www.peoplefinders.com - it costs money ($39.95)but they have the ability to search adoption records.

You can also try searching the public records in your area.

Good luck!
