You have a few ways to handle this that come to mind immediately.
1.First, call 1-888-4PPA-NOW (prescription partnership assistance--thanks, Montel!).
2. If it's not done by phone, when the application arrives, go to a clinic, fill it out and send it back immediately. It does not take very long to be approved.
3. Find a family clinic in your area to prescribe your immediate supply, and find a church or social organization that handles medication costs for people through their benevolence society (either a local church, or call United Way's First Call for Help).
4. You are eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation's services. They pay for medication and doctors, in some cases. and test you for, and provide, re-training (in my case, I have a contract for an associate degree, and I'm 61).
5. Apply for Social Security Disability right away. They will send you to doctors to verify your condition, and, if they determine you are disabled, you will get your SS Disability payments. Whatever income your check falls short of the poverty level will then be provided by SSI. Once you have SSI (which Social Security applies for, on your behalf) you are eligible for and will receive Medicaid.
Stay cheerful, and thank our stars that we are citizens of the USA. Best of luck to you.

Pretty stupid isn't it But it is true. I used to work in the social services department in Kentucky and we always had to tell people that unless they were pregnant (having kids doesn't mean that the parents get it) or disabled there was nothing we could do for them.

Yep. It's the truth. You can get sooo many benefits if you're single and popping out babies. Seems like if you try to live life the "right" way and better yourself, you can't get help when you honestly need it.
Try perscription drug plans like suggested above.

It is very hard to get medicaid in Illinois. Unless you are below poverty level, you won't get it.
You can go to its manufacturor's webpage, and see if they have a discount program for people of limited financial means.
You can also go to your county health clinic.

Medicaid wouldn't be appropriate in your case, but have you looked into medical assistance from the Dept. of Welfare?

Not sure, the only way to find out is contact your local medicaid / welfare office.
