I'm really sorry about your brother.
When I was 8, I was swept out into the ocean by a huge wave. A friend of the family went after me and had to give me CPR. I'm alittle afraid of the ocean to this day.
I was also caught in the middle of a shoot-out by the police and a bank robber. I was in my car and it got shot-up pretty bad, but I only received a few scratches from the breaking glass. They killed the bank robber.

When I was an infant my parents were told that if I didn't have a certain heart surgery I would not live to be 5 years of age. Thank God, I'm now 46 and relatively healthy.
Another time in 1988 I was working in a convenience store and a masked man came in with a sawed off double barrel shotgun and shoved it into my side and robbed the place. Thank God again, He spared me.
Approximately a year later in 1989, I was working in another convencience store and another masked man came in and robbed me.
Those are my closest experiences to death.

I've been in a few accidents, but once in traffic I lost control to avoid hitting a guy who cut me off. I went head on into a concrete divider at 60 mph. I was convinced I wasn't going to live through the impact, but somehow I did (airbags are amazing), and all the other cars missed me spinning across three lanes. I ended up in the woods. I got out with just a sprained pinkie. I really thought my number was up.

I never had anything like that. My closest near death experience was on the Bay Bridge some car just stopped and we went like three lanes across I though that we were going to fall off the bridge but we got back on a lane just in time. No injuries, No damage to the car or anything. And also, a lot of people have had this experience, I almost drowned like 5 times. i still can't swim.

First, I want to say I am so sorry about your brother. Oh my, I truly am!!
The closest I came to death was when I was not being diagnosed with Graves disease! I lost down to 68 pounds and there was nothing left to me at all. Just bones, skin and that was about all!
The Graves disease will attack muscle mass and so, my heart became involved. I was no longer able to walk to the bath and such. I was only 38 years old!
I started crying out to God. That's all I could do. Within a few weeks, they were able to diagnose the Graves. Then, it was on to radiation for the tumors involved.
Truly, noone thought I would make it! God had other plans!

wow, there are some surprising answers here. suddenly i have an eerie sense of mortality.
anyway, i guess the closest was when i was 6 or 7 and in florida. i was playing in the ocean and the undertow grabbed me dragging me under. i couldn't get to my feet, i kept getting hit with more waves and undertow. i remember seeing my older brother watching and laughing, not helping. everything started going black and quiet. somehow i regained my footing as i felt like i was blacking out. i ran out of the water and told my mom what happened. it didn't faze her.
since then, i've never been a big water person. i go swimming occasionally, but watch my kids like a hawk when they're in the water.
as a depressed teen, i always imagined that if i were going to kill myself, i would do it by drowning because it was peaceful
sorry about your brother, and sorry for everyone else who posted about losing someone

You have had or seen a lot of terrible things happen to you, have you ever thought about the Bible and Jesus Christ, Jesus loves you, he would not want you around a satanist, only something bad can come from that. Jesus wants you to accept him into your life and be saved, then his Holy Spirit will come into your life and guide you and protect you, the Spirit will show you what Gods purpose is for your life is, but you first believe in him, he was a perfect sacrifice at calvery. He arose from the grave the third day to wash away our sins forever. His salvation is free and a gift to anyone who will accept it, If I was not a Christian I would not be here right now, I had a seizure going down the road, I remember saying as I was going out, Lord this is it, but when I came to I was still in the same lane I was before my seizure, apparently my guarden angel was driving, because I just coasting along right down the road. You need to become a Christ, just say this sinners prayer and you can become one, you don't have to be in Church to get saved just say, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

I found out a guy I was dating was on drugs so I broke up with him. When I wouldn't take him back he broke into my house when I was home alone and tried to strangle and drown me in my bath tub. Luckily a friend of mine saw him break in and pulled him off of me so here I am. Thank God for sending the right person at the right time.
That's the most tragic of a few other things that have happen to me.

Auto accident, head on with tree at 50 mph and no seatbelt. No injuries other than sore neck from hitting the sunvisor.
Near drowning.
Electric shock.
But maybe the electric shock was just therapy to get me thinking seriously about religion and the meaning of life. It worked, I love life and don't really like religion.
