I'm 24 now, but last yr., I was living back with my former foster family after Hurricane Katrina so I can finish up my college degree, since my home was destroyed. My former foster sister & her husband DEMANDED that I let her use my car, & 1 day, they didn't come & tell me, but snuck behind my back & told my former foster mom that I don't change my oil in my car, & my former foster mom went off on me & told me I shouldn't ever have kids since I didn't know how to take care of my car. My car was sort of new, but no one told me that I had to change the oil every 3,000 miles. What did changing the oil in my car have to do with raising kids? & from that day forward, they kept harrassing & threatening me about changing my oil, when they KNEW I received a fixed income. Did they have a right to do this? & why did they need MY car when their truck was running fine? & when I asked to use their truck, they said, "Why?"

Those people are fricken crazy. We all know we can go longer than 3000 miles w/o changing the oil. I take good care of my car - it is 10 years old and runs great, everyone is very surprised when they find out how old it is. However I do not change the oil every 3000 miles. I make sure the oil is not dirty and that the level is OK but OMG I do not treat it like a child. These people sound as if they care as much about material possessions as they do people - maybe that is part of their problem.

Go to get the oil fixed, and watch how they do it, ask questions have them show you, have them tell you which oil to use etc. etc. etc. You can change your oil at home (no I've never done it) but basically all it is is undoing a cap and having a pan/bucket underneath to catch all the old oil. Then you replace the old stuff with new stuff.

My only guess is that maybe your foster mom was just feeling stress and happened to snap at that moment in time. Your foster sister and her husband were being jerks, why didn't you just say no?

OK. Oil is like the blood in the veins of your car. If your car doesn't have fresh oil, it dies. You don't have to get an oil change right at 3,000 miles, but you should get one pretty soon. Go to Walmart. They're the cheapest.

As far as this family is concerned, they're just family-which means they're a pain in the a#$. Just tolerate them until you can move.
