May be you mean M.A.P.( Manifold absolute pressure) sensor. It tells the power train how much vacuum the engine is pulling to help adjust fuel control. And it does measure barometric pressure every time you turn the key on for best performance at different altitudes.

baro sensor senses barometric pressure
M A P sensor senses Manifold Absolute Pressure ie manifold vacuum
