Some of it's just bad luck as in debris in the pulley system. But no doubt DEI's engine problems are out of hand when it comes to GM teams.
Senior would have never let the engine department get behind like they have. Over the last 26 races out of all the teams with the exceptions of DEI, Ginn, RCR and HMS, there have been about 16 or 17 engine failures with about half of those being Toyota. No surprise there with a start up team trying to figure out how to make an engine last.
Ginn (HMS second tier engines) and RCR have combined for 4 engine failures with Mark Martin exiting a 5th time with an oil leak. DEI has had 8 engine failures.
Then we come to HMS. Casey Mears lost an engine at Darlington on Lap 345,18 laps from the end of the race. A track that is notoriously hard on engines, due to the gearing by the way. The first engine in this race blew on Lap 310. Mears was next, and then four more let go in quick succession on Laps 349, 351, 355 and 361.
No DEI motors blew up that day and Junior and Truex finished 8th and 11th. Menard finished 6 laps down in 31st, but was running. Go figure.
Although Dale finished 8th, he was docked 100 points for a rule infraction so he had a net points finish of 42nd.
I'd say if he had HMS engines this year, he would have plenty of points and some wins.
Next year, the driver will be the same, but the engines will be different.
There are 10 races left and I fully expect Junior to keep going for wins. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he loses another engine or more. Truex may see his chances go up in smoke as well.
I would be highly shocked if HMS grenades any engines.
I believe some major a** kicking is going to commence in about 4 months and last a good while, God willing.
But as long as Dale does his best and retires alive, I'm good.

Its just crappy engine, crappy equipment, its hard to drive you heart out and try to win with crappy stuff...DEI use to have great stuff and won races, and the last couple yrs its gone to totally totally crap..Its not Teresa, I doubt she is snooping thru the shop at night messing with the equipment, I'm sure there are security camera's.. I hope they get to the bottom of it, it will be funny and odd, if he wins now that he is not in the chase and no more engines blow.....then there will be really something to look into.....All I have to say is I hope she chokes next yr when Dale Jr is out there winning in HMS stuff, I'd love the last lap of the Daytona 500, have a finish like this yr with Dale Jr in HMS, beating Mark Martin in the DEI #8 at the finish....yep Teresa I hope you choke..
Go Dale Jr Go....

Because Jr don't play. He has the desire to win. All he needs is the cars to win. Those cars that DEI has can't hold up to "THE MAN".
When he gets the HMS cars watch out. That's when "little e" is going to be "BIG E".
After trying to make those DEI cars run as fast as he has those HMS cars will be a breeze.
You also don't see his team mates finishing as high as he does when he has an engine that holds together. She may be getting low on money and be giving Dale Jr the old scrap engines.

Your right . Jr. engines aren't worth Jr. driving the car. Truly doesn't anyone see that after Teresa started all this with Jr. his engines start blowing up or his car just wasn't good enough.hmmmmmmmmm. Agree with Patty 100% !The #8 never should of been taken from Jr. Teresa knew how much it meant to him. A power move on her part. Why is it such a big deal to her anyways? They offer her way to much money for the #8 and she still said no. This will hurt her big time, she better watch and listen, because the fans are talking!

Who knows for sure, but I know his father sure drove hard, and rarely lost an engine, and beginning next year, DEI will team up with RCR(Richard Childress Racing) on engine building., There has also been mention of DEI buying Hendrick engines to use in the races. As far as why Dale's had so many engines issues this year, that's racing, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. Dale has had as many problems with pit crew mistakes as with engines. As for the one that said Jr. sucks, that's your opinion, and you are probably a Ford or Toyota fan, maybe you suck. As for me, i hate the fact that Toyota is in NASCAR..... And I own a fine running 4-Runner Toyota that I use for work, and love it, but I also love my Chevy Silverado......

Yeah! She will eventually get what she deserves! I thought it was strange when Truex ran soooo good too, and didn't want to believe Teresa was so mean, but she is. Or it seems like it anyway.

it does seem kind of fishy... He is driving the same way he always has, but his engines are not holding up... I for one am glad that Jr is getting away from that organization...
