compassion is not supposed to come with strings attached. That's just part of the *definition*. So, no, it cannot be compassionate to love only those who are like oneself.

No.

It is not only not compassionate but not intelligent either.

If we love only those who think like us then we are never challenged to learn, grow and become more enlightened.

No, Compassion isn't an issue if all of you are in accord with one another. And turning the switch off towards some one because they aren't living up to your standard, is judging, Now, God has said he is the one to judge, not you.

Jesus's command was to love as I have loved....Jesus sat with the worst sinners. Jesus said Mark 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Matthew 22:36-39

Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[a] 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.

we are to love all and show love to all......

Yes it is wrong to love only those that loves you, cause we are to turn the other cheek when another strikes us. One can just stay away from bad and pray for them that despitefully misuse and abuse them. therefore keep the peace and love abounding in your heart always.

No. Jesus said to love one another as I have loved you.
That means that since he died for the "entire world" not just the ones that he knew would be positive (saved) than so should we love the "entire world" and have compassion for those who don't believe as we do.

my way is to meet people with the same basic respect... mostly I'm unemotional about the whole thing, indifferent but not unkind... but as their behavior is shown my level of respect, like and dislike changes... I don't like to share space with people I dislike... that is my personal philosophy on the matter.
