I am a single mother of 3 and went to apply for assistance, ya know a little bit of food stamps and some medical insurance. I work full time and have a few other incomes coming in. They added all my incomes and hours and told me I make to much. Only my kids are eligible for medical, which is fine by me, but what I dont understand is why they have to struggle to have good nourishing meals? The caseworker said that because they havent raised the minimum wage guidelines, that is what is hurting us. Basically minimum wage used to be 5.15 an hour, now it is 6.85. Waitresses made 2.13 an hour and now make 3.43. So the 3.43 isnt far from the 5.15, so it makes it look like we can afford more. Who do I contact, to email or send a letter? Congressman, senator, mayor who would be the one to inform that ppl who want to work still need help? I am very desparate. I am struggling with bills, rent, gas, and food. I work and cant make it. Who do I tell? Thanx in advance to those who care!

And please understand that each and every penny goes pretty much to my kids. What I have left over after paying my NECESSITIES!!! Their little bit of food that I can afford. I hate people who are always out with the thought that someone is always trying to rip the system. I work hard to pay taxes just the same as all of you, so there for if I need just a little bit of help dont critiize me. Its not like I am lazy, sitting here doing nothing or even asking for a million dollars. I have my childrens father, but he is disabled. But that is none of anybodys business. I just ask who to contact for the help I cant get FOR MY CHILDREN!!!!!! ( Thanks for the waste of time and space you took from my page advice though "dunkadoo"!!)

Really until the state changes their guidelines nothing can be done. Though if any of your children are under 5 you will be ablet o quialfy for WIC.

My husband got a 25 dollar a month raise, I didn't think it would affect anything till I got pregnant and went to apply for mediciad... Sure enough even though I'm pregnant with number 2 and my husband is only bringing home 25 extra dollars, my food stamps where cut off.
My husband works hard, and pays taxes. I've workered everyday for the past 12 years except for when I took off when my daughter was born, so I've paid taxes. Its not that you are wanting to rip off the system or live off the system.

I think instead of helping the people who do nothing at all the state would help the ones that are working and are trying to survive but b/c they make just alittle bit to much.

TO all those blasting her for needing hlep..Try this..Cut your grocery budget down like 25 dollars a week and try to spread it between 4 people. Don't judge anyone. ANYONE CAN HAVE A BAD BREAK AT ANYTIME IN THEIR LIFE AND END UP ON THEIR BUTT>
Yeap that extra

The Department of Economic Security should be able to help you. They have rent assistance programs. Try getting into Section 8 housing, that way you will only have to pay a portion of the rent. If you do not qualify for food stamps, they will atleast be able to direct you where to go for a food box once a week. Check with local churches in your area too, a lot of times they will sell boxes of groceries for like $5 and $10 and you get a lot! Good luck to you, and I admire you for working so hard to provide a decent living for your family, and more importantly, you are setting a good example. You could easily give up and let the government support you. I beleive God will always provide you with what you need, as long as you keep trying.

try going to like the electric company and having bill done on a prorated basis so that you pay the same every month. I was in you position many years ago and worked 3 jobs. I bought food in bulk and store it. Like hamburger in 5 lb roles and cut it up into 1 lb chunks. I always cooked from scratch which I found was cheaper then the boxed or processed foods. Hang in there it gets better. raising the min wage only makes everything else go up cause employers have to raise prices to meet the payrole increases, its a vicious circle. and I do agree with you those of us who chose to work should get help also not just those that sit on their ***. We need to be rewarded for what we are doing not punished.

Get a father for the kids. Obviously, children are expensive, and it often takes 2 to not only afford them, but raise them.

But since im sure getting them a father isnt one of your priorities, try not to have even more.

..For starters, try to find another job that makes you more than your 3.42 + tips. I know waitressing is a strong variable in takehome. My wife who was a waitress, used to work 3 or 4 nights a week, and now makes more working only 2 days a week stocking a store in the evening. They also cover a HUGE chunk of medical (%80).

. Getting down to the very basics now is essental.

Cell phones, cable tv, new clothes, movie rentals and more can really add up to a monthly ammount that can easily move you away from that make it or break it. Do not get more credit card debt.

DO NOT BUY fast food. Buy large ammouts of affordable food such as potatoes and breads and meat. Cook it yourself. Distill tap water in old 2 liter bottles and keep in your refridgerator, it is more healthy than pop, and is virtually free.

Adopt a strict elextricity policy with your children. Teach them to turn off lights in rooms that they are leaving. Teach them to use sunlight and open windows during the day instead of lamps.

Teach them to not flush the toilet EVERY time they use it. Each flush uyses gallons and gallons. A good use 2 times policy alone can virtually cut your water bill IN HALF!

Short, to the point showers, with lower water setting. Use a bath instead of a shower can also further reduce your water costs.

Turning the heat down 3 or 4 degrees can reduce your gas bill dramatically. Many will turn down th heat at night even further after a $50 investment more blankets. Night time is a time everyone is naturally bundled, so the heat CAN be reduced then.

STOP SMOKING!!!! Smoking can be the single KILLER of small incomes. At near 6$ a pack, smoking can mean a meal or not for the day. Smoking can mean that few gallons of gas. HOw many lbs of beef can you buy instead of that pack of smokes...Its enough to feed your kids.

Now is a great time to get the kids reading for fun. It is not only FREE to join the library, but it will prepare them for acceleration in school. If there is no tv, or there is only the 3 over air channels which is FREE... THe kids will loose interest in tv, and it will pave the road for more inteligent past times.

At your pay, you SHOULD NOT be earning "too much" for valid assistance. If they deem you too high of a earner, you are lying about your problem, or you are creating the problem yourself. Or you have a boyfriend who steals or uses your money for drugs, creating your problem. OR you yourself are addicted to drugs. Or tou are here to try to get a handout from someone who feels bad for a lie.

You know who to call. YOUR CASEWORKER who you obviously know how to contact. No matter who you call, if you want handouts you will be referred right back to that caseworker.

If you were too lazy to read the tips i gave you, you are too lazy for children and you need to tell your case worker you want to put your children up for adoption. I didnt type all this to incult you or make you angry.. I typed more than anyone else will becase I care about your kids.

* Its EVERYBODYS business the minute you need to come to us for money. And dont froget, welfare and handouts ARE taxpayer money.

In your profile, you mentioned that you like to "cruise the internet in your spare time". Well, the internet costs quite a bit of money. Im sure it is atleast the same as a meal or two. Wouldnt you prefer spend that time getting a better job instead of begging from taxpayers thru proxy of a caseworker?

And if you take the minute to read my post, it will possibly save you some money to take better care of your children. If you are only looking for cash directly to your hand, you can disreguard my post and keep begging.

i am very sorry for problems in this work. you have some options. if you have a miltary base. near you. they have cilvian jobs. that offer 15-18 dollars in hour. kps, cooks, ect. plus there are many companies that can help. kellogs, and brown and root. offer jobs 80 to 90 thousand a year. but you must be willing to travel. and once you are in with theses companies you will be set. good luck

im not really sure who to contact. thats weird though that you cant get help.did you tell them that your struggling. did you try getting on wic to at least help with like milk and cheese and stuff. how old are you kids. cuz if you get insurance for them then you should automatically be eligable for wic..at least thats what they told me. if your kids are 5 or under you will get wic things for each one of your kids..milk, cheese, juice, peanut butter and cereal. that would at least help you out a little bit. try and contact them again and tell them that you cant afford nutricious things for your kids and see if theres any other way they can help. try a food pantry too...hope this helps a little.sorry im not more of a help to you. good luck

It depends where you live and do you receive child support,
I would try catholic charties or a local food bank to help with the food.
You can write to the gov but bottom line they don't care.
Try the web for cheap easy ideas for meals like dollarstretcher or http://frugalliving.about.com/

There should be a medical program for you where you would have to pay a little, like one step up from medicaid. You can also go for WIC depending on the ages of your children.

In our community its our local food bank, that hits the bracket you're in. Granted, they can only provide, whats donated to them. I know they prefer cash, as some people/companies also donate unhealthy food. Id look to what your local resources are for that.

If your SRS office couldn't help you then I'm at a loss. But I admire the heck out of you for wanting to work and not sit around collecting welfare.
