I have read post after post on y/a where many in the non-believing community have attempted to link Christianity to everything from the black plague to Hitler and World War 2. Many of these claims are outright lies and without merit, but that is for another discussion. My question is why is it when some butcher like Bin Laden comes out with a statement like this morning, where he Praises the monsters who killed almost three thousand people, and encourages others to follow suit and kill more innocent civilians, or like last weeks statement where he urged Americans and the West to “convert” to Islam and end the war, you people or at least many of your people are silent. If these acts had been committed by a Christian, or if a Christian leader stood up and praised the killing of innocent people for for Christianity, you people would have filled the WebPages and bolgs condemning all Christians and Christianity. Why such a double standard with you folks? Do you hate all religion or just Christianity?

The main fact that will set their fate is that they deny the existence of the Christian God, and of the Son. If they only denied the Muslim God, their fate would be much different, as this is strongly encouraged.

There are no more a percentage of hypocrites within the atheist community than there are in the religious community. Some atheists strive on controversy and adversity just as some Christians have shown the same towards us.

Oh, and we know enough to keep our mouth shut around fundamentalist Muslims. Fundamentalist (anything) is just as much a cult as Scientology or Mormonism. And cults are scary.

Not too many Christians go around killing in the name of god these days. Not since the guy with the tiny mustache, at least.

You've been away from the planet for several years, eh? I'm a typical atheist: I do not 'hate' religion, any religion, nor any of the various gods. When I speak of Christianity here it is because Christianity is the dominant religion on my native country, and as a child I was a Christian. In short, I am closer to it, I know more about it now than I am apt to ever know about Islam, for one. Dear heart, atheists, like Christians, come in various stripes; we are not all the same critter. But one thing seems to be a constant amongst us: we do not believe that any gods exist--whether it's the Christian god or the Muslim god. That describes atheism: we do not believe gods exist.

All atheists are not in favor of any religion. Most atheists you see on here speak so loudly against Christian hypocrisy because that is the kind we most often encounter.

Do you think that an absence of criticism of bin Laden's words somehow implies agreement? So, if we're not for you we're against you? Simple people with simple minds.

How can Christianity cause the Black Plague unless the fleas were baptized?

I'm not an atheist. As I recall, the last time I read the news over 1 million people, 2/3 of whom are women and children, have been killed in Iraq alone after some country invaded them trying to get control of the oil there. Then there was the invasion of Afghanistan before that, and lots of people in the invading country support that particular organized slaughter.. do you suppose there is a connection between outrage over one set of organized slaughter and the other? It's all organized slaughter, regardless of what hat anyone wears.

You sure do have a corncob stuck in your butt LOLOLOLOL. How about that we just expect wacky, deranged religious lunatics of ANY denomination to do wacky, deranged lunatic things. How does getting all frenetic and shouting condemnation through a megaphone help us catch Bin Laden, or stop the other terrorist crazies? Have you not heard of the saying "softly, softly catchee monkey"? Probably one reason why we haven't caught the guy is because our "Tell everything to everybody" American News Media policy constantly tips off the wackoes about everything we are thinking and planning, and worrying about, and not worrying about and a thousand etceteras. Not to mention that we Americans are sooo good at giving the enemy courage and enthusiasm as we unzip ourselves completely and let them see all of the wrangling and dissent among our dis-united factions.

The one thing that even the craziest terrorists know is that when their enemy is divided within itself, it becomes weaker and more vulnerable. During World War II one of the things that helped most to defeat the Monster, Adolf Hitler and his sickening Nazi Regime was the fact that people who previously had areas of disagreement among themselves recognised the need, and the wisdom of setting those things aside and uniting with a single goal against a common enemy.

You dislike A-theists OK, understood. So be it. But whom do you really think you are helping, or hurting, when you use that dislike of yours to get into Q & A and go on a rampage , using our common enemy as the weapon to do so?

You can dislike the "non-christian" all you want, but think about this... you, and we both, live in a country founded on the inalienable right of each and every human being to be the owner of his own mind, and the master of his own thinking and believing. You can pray to whatever God you want, in whatever way you want. But you had better be prepared to acknowledge the right of others to enjoy the exact same privilege, whether YOU approve of it or not.

In the meantime, instead of getting up on your soapbox and using Bin Laden, and the Terrorist wackoes who operate under his warped Jihad, as an excuse to hurl invectives at those who don't happen to share your personal belief system, I suggest you might set aside your personal beef, and recognise instead, that if this common enemy ever marches up the garden path to any of our front doors, no sheepsblood crossmark on YOUR door is going to make them back off and target OUR door instead. NO, they'll get all of us alike because to them we are ALL the enemy.

It's time for us to forget our personal differences of individual thinking and believing, and present a united front against a common danger. Whenever that danger has passed, well, I guess we can get back to our petty wrangling, but at least we wont be trying to blow one another up... I hope not anyway.

Many of us post the same arguments to Muslim posts as we do to Christian ones.

But unlike the Vatican or the local baptist church, I'd vote in a heartbeat to nuke the area around OBL to radioactive glass.

I find Islam much more "laughable" than Christianity as it's a blatantly made up religion, and I express that daily here.

Does this make you feel any better?

As long as we're asking questions, why hasn't there been a Muslim uprising against Bin Laden?

Double standard? Not really. Look at the definition of the word atheist. No Gods. None. Not yours, not his, not theirs. None.

Most rational people just write him off as a complete nutter.

I don't hate religion. I do have a problem with fanatics, no matter what religion they come from.

But yeah, I'd be more alarmed if it had come from a Christian, for the simple fact that Christianity holds far more sway over our society than Islam does.

'Hypocrite' capacity 'actor', one that pretends to be some thing he's not. Christians attempt to stay as Jesus needs us to stay, yet from time to time we fall short, so we are categorized 'hypocrites'. Who freaking cares? Those people have nothing to do with me, because we have no shared beliefs. Every murderer in history could have been an atheist, and it STILL wouldn't invalidate the points, nor make God any more likely. This point is moot because we aren't one group, sect, party or class. There is no "Atheism," no greater party or collection of us. We are disparate people, with nothing to do with one another other than a lack of belief in something. That's like saying every Pedophile ever hasn't believed in Santa, so believing in Santa is the way to go. (This of course is silly, because to be a Pedophile you have to be an adult, and adults do not believe in Santa Clause.)
