UGH, one of my worst paranoias ever just came true - my son went downstairs to play (we don't go down there every day, maybe every few days), and there was some old sippy cup down there, I don't know when it was from. I couldn't get to it before he grabbed it and tasted it. EW. I think it was originally apple juice, but when I took the lid off and looked at it, it looked and smelled more like beer; it was like, slightly fizzy. It can't have been more than like 3 days old, but still I'M GROSSED OUT. I have always been totally horrified of this happening.
What can I expect? Is he going to be having diarrhea or what?

You're grossed out. He's forgotten all about it.
I don't think a sip would even give him diarrhea or any other repercussions at all. Obviously, if he seems ill, you'll do something about it.
And I LOVE the comment from an obviously non-parent about putting all sippies in the sink and not leaving them lying around. Like you never thought to wash them. They're in for a huge eye-opener when and if they have kids. Wait until the day their kid eats something fuzzy from under the couch.

the cup he normally uses is fine.. start off with a lot of water and a bit of milk add less water and more milk everyday he will eventually get used to the taste of milk in his sippy. Right now its not a "major" concern about milk because he is getting the calcium from the yogurt and cheese.. Vitamin D he will get from playing out side in the sunshine. come the time when he is in doors more then it will be more of a concern. or just offer him milk in his sippy and nothing else. He's 18 months old so milk is not his primary source of nutrients he will eventually get thirsty enough to just drink it. Don't give up on him this would be like us walking instead of driving... we can do it but its just a major life change. Dont give up on him it will all work out in his time not yours....

I wouldn't worry about it.Chances are, he didn't drink too much of it....and don't feel bad, we all go through it. About a month ago, I gave my 2 year old son a cup and he kept saying, "soda will make me sick." I finally checked his cup and found that I had given him one that had been in the car for ???? It was the same cup as the fresh one, but I didn't realize until he told me several times that soda makes him sick. He lived through it. He didn't get sick. We are, afterall, only human.

All I can say is that we've been there, and everybody's still standing, and, amazingly, had no symptoms (though I was feeling ill over it). If he throws up or something, you know what it is from and probably don't have to suspect a stomach virus. :-) Of course, if he has any symptoms you're concerned about, do call the doctor.

He will be fine- just remember to pick up the cups and wash them from now on so you don't have to worry about it again. I don't think he will have any side effects from taking a sip of formented apple juice- you may want to call the doctor just in case though.

Well honestly I think your better half husband or wife has a closet drinking problem I think it really was beer they just don't want you to know that they drink so much! So, they have been drinking their beer out of sippy cups heck better that then the original 40oz bottle of high life!!!!! So who cares if they look like a goof ball drinking from a sippy cup they still have one h3ll of a buzz while you bitching at him to pick up his socks!!!!

He only tasted it. My 7 month old has hidden and rediscovered his juicy cups before. He was none the worse for wear. Its disgusting but it doesnt hurt them. Its not like he sucked down a gallon of it.

it sounds like he couldn't have gotten more than a swallow. it's gross, yeah, but he'll prolly be fine. Keep an eye on him, of course, but don't freak....he'd prolly have to drink the whole thing to get sick at all.
