Its not a religious thing, that's for sure. Islam never permits terrorism or killing of innocent lives.
What people has taken for granted is the fact that Muslims, or Al-Qaeda or Bin Laden is responsible for the terrorism in 9/11. But how can we be so sure? All the information we know are fuelled by the media which commits partialty, and from Bush's oh-so-much-reliable Intelligence Agency.
I believe that Laden is a creation and puppet of the US Government, and just a put-on to cover the real perpetrators of the 9/11 tragedy. Otherwise, he could never had eluded capture for such a long time. Its all politics, bias and conspiracy.
Did you know that a THIRD BUILDING was also destroyed alongside the two World Trade towers? If not, then imagine how the US Government has managed to hide such a huge secret and kept it away from being broadcasted in the media. The power and influence they have got is enough to run conspiracies all over the world.
Hope Bush falls soon.

I'm sure the Islamists who planned it and carried it out consider it a religious thing. They believe the U.S. and its capitalist ways are anti-Islam. They probably considered the Muslims who worked there to be not real Muslims in their eyes, or traitors to the belief, and therefore it was ok. The others are right in that it's about power and politics as well, but the fanatics want to restore Islam to its glory (as in, back in the days when it was flourishing, hence, the return to sharia law) and they see the west as their biggest obstacle, the biggest "thieves" of their glory and fortune.

You do mean the ones NOT flying the planes, right? It was more a political-economic thing. It has to do with oil and who should get it, regardless of the religious hype. Any Muslims in the towers or other buildings or passengers on the planes were collateral damage. In Islam, religion, politics, and economics are part of one whole. You cannot be Muslim and not be political. Read Taliban, by Ahmed Rashid, and Armed Madhouse, by Greg Palast for background.

Because Muslims believe that the "death" of other muslims mean little, They believe that all muslims will get there rewards from "Allah" so in the mind of the terrorist, they where "doing there brethren a favor". That is the mind set that we have to relize were dealing with, These terrorist will take out 5 of there own just to get one of us, and in there minds they believe its justifiable loses...
And I quite frankly dont care wether it is a religious thing or a political thing. When you take steps to murder others (for whatever reason) it becomes a personal thing for those family's who have lost loved ones...
I personaly believe that thes "so called terrorist" are cowards of the most despicable kind. If Bin Laden is so "gung ho" about his beliefs, why dosent he "Martyr" himself? Practice what he preaches.... Quit sending his "weak minded" followers and make a show of his faith on his own..

it's not a religious thing, it's a political thing. the Quran talks about people that justify their sins like that :
[Quran 7:28] They commit a gross sin, then say, “We found our parents doing this, and GOD has commanded us to do it.” Say, “GOD never advocates sin. Are you saying about GOD what you do not know?”
“...we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life, it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. ...” [Quran 5:32]
[Quran 49:13] O people, we created you from the same male and female, and rendered you distinct peoples and tribes that you may recognize one another. The best among you in the sight of GOD is the most righteous. GOD is Omniscient, Cognizant.
[Quran: 7:199] ...You shall resort to pardon, advocate tolerance, and disregard the ignorant.
[Quran 6:151] “...You shall not kill * GOD has made life sacred * except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand.”
[Quran17:33] “You shall not kill any person * for GOD has made life sacred — except in the course of justice.”
[Quran 2:256] There shall be no compulsion in religion...
[Quran 60:8] GOD does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion, and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. GOD loves the equitable.
[Quran 8:61] If they resort to peace, so shall you, and put your trust in GOD. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.
[Quran 4:90]”...Therefore, if they leave you alone, refrain from fighting you, and offer you peace, then GOD gives you no excuse to fight them.”
