Either use an old coffee can or veggie can...
You can cut a milk container in half and use that....
In a pinch, I have lined a bowl with aluminum foil, poured the cooled oil into it...and later, picked up the foil corners and folded it into itself, and tossed...
Never toss out HOT oil...ALWAYS let it cool....
Do not pour it directly into your trash can...it will enevitably leak!
NEVER put it down the drain or disposal (It WILL clog !)...
Never re-use oil that has not been refridgerated...(I had a friend who made a bunch of us sick, because she re-used the oil in a FryDaddy, that she had let sit for DAYS unrefridgerated!...)....

if you drink coffee, save a coffee can and lid. When its time to change the oil in your deep fryer, just slowly drain the cooled oil into the empty coffee can and seal with the lid. Just throw the sealed can away in your dumpster. Some cities may have recycling areas where you can take the to "properly" dispose of.
If you dont have an empty coffee can, an empty 3-liter coke bottle will work. You may need a funnel to drain the oil into the bottle. Just seal tightly with the lid. Make sure the oil is not hot when your drain, it will melt the bottle.
Empty glass jars will work just as well.
Definitly do not put down the kitchen sink! The oil will harden when cold and clog your pipes. Plumbers are very expensive!

Let the oil cool and then you can pour it down the drain if you run plenty of hot water with it. The hot water will help it pass through the drain without clogging.

Let it cool- then pour into any jar with a top- the oil bottle it came from, spaghetti sauce jar, mayo jar. Then, I seal it shut and add to the trash. No, don't ever pour it down the sink! Even if I have a little bit in the pan, I'll wipe it with a paper towel instead of placing in the sink.

The most eco-friendly idea is to filter it, and use the filtered oil as fuel for a diesel engine or fuel oil furnace.

It also can be burned in a charcoal grill, or soaked up with something absorbant (kitty litter or newspapers) and disposed of, in a box or jug, as solid waste.

Finally, you can pour it into an empty milk jug as is, but you need to attach the lid very *firmly* (so it doesn't spill all over the trash handlers) and dispose of it in the solid waste.

i always use my oil several times...straining any particles out of it each time, then put it in a plastic container (after it has cooled) with a lid & refridgerate it.You would be surprised how many times you can reuse it. Just don't use oil that fish has been fried in for anything BUT fish. And never, never pour down the sink...i did that...someone told me to flush with lotsa hot water..it didn't matter...i had a heck of a plumber's bill outta that mistake. When it DOES get old I put it in a coffee can with lid inside several plastic grocery bags, tie & set upright in the trash can outdoors.

You could even take the hot oil and put it in an open can. Put it in the refrigerator after it cools and once it sets, transfer it to a used zip-lock bag and then put it in the trash. Our local dump has a special place to dump your oil and grease so we put ours in a coffee can in the house with a lid and when it's full, we transfer it to a large plastic paint bucket. When the bucket is full, we dump it at the dump and bring the bucket back home to refill. But if you have garbage service, then the zip lock bag works great.

I strain mine through cheesecloth and put back in the container it came from and reuse it as long as it stays fairly clear. Do not put it in your drain, it will clog it and hurt your septic or sewer.

If you feel you have to get rid of it, keep it in a large coffee can or pail and then to dispose of it, look for a local place that makes biodiesel, they will take it. Or just take it to the dump.

I put the used oil in any empty container that has a tight fitting lid, such as a pickle jar or peanut butter jar.If its the end of the oil, with a funnel, you can put it back in the oil bottle to discard.
