Knowing about all the murders and atrocities committed by the Protestant churches, how can you be a part of them?

Knowing about all the murders and atrocities committed by the United States, how can you be a part of it?

Knowing about all the murders and atrocities committed by any established group of people over 200 years old, how can you be a part of it?

Please be a bit more specific so that we can properly answer your claims.

Also remember that a few bad members of any group do not make the entire group bad. Just take a look at the United States House of Representatives or Senate or even the Presidency.

With love in Christ.

Are you suggesting that the Catholic Church is not the True Church because it's members make mistakes? Jesus NEVER said His Church would be free of controversy, but that doesn't mean it's not the True Church:

Matt. 13:24-30 - scandals have always existed in the Church, just as they have existed outside of the Church. This should not cause us to lose hope in the Church. God's mysterious plan requires the wheat and the weeds to be side by side in the Church until the end of time.

Matt. 13:47-50 - God's plan is that the Church (the kingdom of heaven) is a net which catches fish of every kind, good and bad. God revealed this to us so that we will not get discouraged by the sinfulness of the Church’s members.

Matt. 16:18 - no matter how sinful its members conduct themselves, Jesus promised that the gates of death will never prevail against the Church.

Matt. 23:2-3 - the Jewish people would have always understood the difference between a person's sinfulness and his teaching authority. We see that the sinfulness of the Pharisees does not minimize their teaching authority. They occupy the "cathedra" of Moses.

Matt. 26:70-72; Mark 14:68-70; Luke 22:57; John 18:25-27 - Peter denied Christ three times, yet he was chosen to be the leader of the Church, and taught and wrote infallibly.

Mark 14:45 - Judas was unfaithful by betraying Jesus. But his apostolic office was preserved and this did not weaken the Church.

Mark 14:50 - all of Jesus' apostles were unfaithful by abandoning Him in the garden of Gethsemane, yet they are the foundation of the Church.

John 20:24-25 - Thomas the apostle was unfaithful by refusing to believe in Jesus' resurrection, yet he taught infallibly in India.

Rom. 3:3-4 - unfaithful members do not nullify the faithfulness of God and the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church.

Eph. 5:25-27 - just as Jesus Christ has both a human and a divine nature, the Church, His Bride, is also both human and divine. It is the holy and spotless bride of Christ, with sinful human members.

1 Tim. 5:19 - Paul acknowledges Church elders might be unfaithful. The Church, not rebellion and schism, deals with these matters.

2 Tim. 2:13 - if we remain faithless, God remains faithful for He cannot deny Himself.

2 Tim. 2:20 - a great house has not only gold and silver, but also wood and earthenware, some for noble use, some for ignoble use.

Jer. 24:1-10 - God's plan includes both good and bad figs. The good figs will be rewarded, and the bad figs will be discarded.

1 Kings 6,7,8 - the Lord commands us to build elaborate places of worship. Some non-Catholics think that this is controversial and the money should be given to the poor, even though no organization does more for the poor of the world that the Catholic Church. We create our churches with beauty because Christ our King lives in the churches in the blessed Eucharist.

Matt. 26:8-9; Mark 14:4-5; John 12:5 - negative comments concerning the beauty of the Church are like the disciples complaining about the woman anointing Jesus' head with costly oil. Jesus desires that we honor Him with our best gifts, not for Him, but for us, so that we realize He is God and we are His creatures.

Matt. 26:10-11 - Jesus says we have both a duty to honor God and give to the poor - a balanced life of reverence and charity.

I agree with many here that say you can't condemn a church by the acts of a few...but still, to those who say it wasn't the Church, but men, that made these errors:

The Church is the Pope, is it not? He is the vicar of Christ on earth...how can the Church be separated from the men, when the men are the Church? Hard to reconcile that for me. Most of the atrocities committed by this particular church were sanctioned by the Vicar of Christ...the infallible Pope. That may be where the Catholic Church is different from others. This idea of infallibility of it's ruler.

Ha ha! I love all these defensive answers being given here; make that *any* church/religion and your point will be made even more strongly. Religion is irrational crap and can ultimately only be defended by violence, as history all the way up to the present day keeps reminding us.

An example from today's news: the Catholic League (aka The League of Ridiculous Gentlemen) has just called Kathy Griffin 'blasphemous' for making a joke about Jesus! They never got the memo that blasphemy is a victimless crime, but they do have their soul mates elsewhere in the world: a little group that goes by the name of al-Qaeda.

Why even ask this question? I love how people bring up the past, and by the way you have to go way back several centuries until you find something of the sort you are talking about, which you or I weren't a part of. Christ has founded a Church rooted in truth, and that truth is this. That He is present in all its parts and you and no one else will ever be able to break this bond with its people.
I pray especially hard for people like yourself, who blame the whole of the Church for what some people did for their own personal gain, but notice that the Church even through times of this nature, grew and continues to grow because Christ is its head and we are its body.
God bless and may you find peace.

well, every major institution has a darker side (religions, governments, etc), but that's not to say that what the Catholic Church did during the Inquisition was excusable. that's why Pope John Paul II apologized for it. it was an inhuman act purported by the Church's human leaders.

but just because the Church has (or had) several terribly bad aspects, it doesn't mean that the entire Church itself is bad. for one, Catholic missions around the world have helped millions of poor people by providing livelihood, hope and faith. secondly, despite its dark history, it doesn't necessarily mean that the Church's teachings now (teachings of love and understanding) are false.

despite the dark history of the Catholic Faith, i still believe it to be true Church, the Body of Christ on earth.

Faith has nothing to do with that. You can't associate those atrocities with faith because they weren't committed by the faithful. Catholics are not the only group in which such atrocities have occurred. Look at all those southern Protestants who belong to the KKK. A group that feeds off terror and murder. Most of those members are also members of Protestant churches.

It was not the Church that committed alleged atrocities centuries ago, but individual men.

The United States of America unjustly slaughtered Native Americans in the 19th Century. Therefore, should American Citizens discount the validity of our nation and our patriotism? Of course not!.

Some years ago, some members of the Los Angeles Police Department were found guilty of extortion, drug trafficking, burglary, receiving stolen property, and falsifying evidence. Should Angelenos therefore discount the legitimacy of the LAPD? Of course not!

I remain a Catholic because Jesus himself said that the Gates of Hell would never prevail against His Church.

Peace be with you.

Knowing how many atrocities, murders, heinous acts have been committed by the entire human race, how can you be a part of it?

Stop being so judgmental, if you don't like us or our faith then stop bugging us, do something else with your life. Do you seriously have nothing better to do with your time than harass other people?

"Why could anybody desire to proceed to be a member of any faith that condems devil with one hand and contains ouit his paintings with the different? " it fairly is an absurd question. the Catholic church does no longer carry out devil's paintings. there have been abuses/crimes via some priests & some Bishops lined them up. yet that doesnt' recommend the church authorized of those acts. The Pope condemmed those movements. remember Frank Serpico, the NYC cop? some long island police have been corrupt. Does that recommend that police in maximum circumstances are all undesirable?? those crimes via a minority of priests which befell over the final 40 years are a robust excuse for Catholic haters to slam the Catholic Church. presently, a federal checklist, ordered via Congress and chartered via the U.S. branch of preparation, uncovered rampant sexual abuse in public colleges during the rustic. yet politicians and the mainstream press corps all yet exceeded over it. nevertheless the media ran every day thoughts approximately previous allegations regarding Catholics, the federal checklist envisioned that 422,000 California public college scholars could be victims of sexual misconduct via educators earlier commencement — a extensive type dwarfing the state’s finished Catholic college enrollment of 143,000. in assessment, during the 1st 0.5 of 2002, the sixty one greatest newspapers in California ran a million,744 thoughts approximately sexual abuse in Catholic establishments, referring particularly much entirely to a protracted time-previous allegations. during the comparable era, those newspapers ran 4 thoughts approximately federally uncovered sexual abuse in public colleges. Public college scholars face a a lot greater suitable danger of molestation. whether this is much less complicated to attack the Catholic Church. it fairly is purely Catholic bigoty.
