I have to share some very insightful dialog on this topic -
Deb: What are you drawing?
Napoleon Dynamite: A liger.
Deb: What's a liger?
Napoleon Dynamite: It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.
So, in summary, if a lion and tiger can have a common ancestor, then so can the cheetah and tiger.
'cheeger?' 'teetah?'

Well, that is possible but I believe there may have have been many more then just one. Cross breeding is common in cats and dogs, and so, surely there are other types both living and extinct that could be the fore parent's of any cats and dogs.
This is not evolution, it is mutation. Mutation which goes on today. Take any cross-bred cat today and bred it with another cross-bred cat and you have a new cross-bred cat. And the same with dogs.
But your idea of a common ancestor, no. That implies evolution, which it is not, it is mutation, nothing else. And not evolution that horses and donkeys produce mules although mules are sterile, most mutated dogs and cats are not.
Although there is a point, I believe, where a single species such as the cheetah and tiger can no longer cross-bred and therefore end up a single species.

These are human scientific designations that have nothing really to do with the diversity of species in animals...we pick an attribute and assign it to the creature and then cubby hole them into genus catagories and try to family them up. The problem is this phylem spectrum...you have mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fowl. Some of each have their life on land and some in the water...the spectrum is too large and too vast for any human to attempt to associate them altogether. That is one of the issues that evolution cannot resolve...if we evolved from primates then what did primates evolve from? A cheetah is a large cat and a tiger is an even larger cat...just like my house cat is a small domestic...well, house cat. A chimp is a primate. A human is a human and one of a kind. We have our own genetic blueprint and they all have theirs. You really should look into some writings and research regarding the molecular machines of DNA and also the "theory" of irreducible complexity. Love in Christ, ~J~ Consider if you will these strange creatures and the genes they might have in common..with??? Platypus Kangaroo Bats Butterflies Bears They, say that the Giant Panda is more directly related to the Racoon than the bear...yeah. Okay.

Both Creationists and Evolutionists belief that the cheetah and a tiger could share a common ancestor.
The difference is where they believe that ancestor came from.

Had to have since been the flood, if they are true creationists.
You know, that would mean that the cheetas and tigers were among the TENS OF MILLIONS OF ANIMALS THAT THE GUY PUT IN HIS BOAT THAT WAS ONLY 120 FEET LONG...
sorry, some stories are just sooooooooo stupid. And yet, they believe.

This is pointing more towards evolution then creationism. Most likely they were on the earth at the same time. As they were created at the same time.

Sure I believe that it is possible as they are both cats but since I am not a scientist I could not provide any evidence for you.
Edit: sorry you said creationist not evolutionist...my bad.

Not only that, but Lions and Tigers are so closely related that they can interbreed. Google "Liger"
