As a geologist, I am well aware of the effects of warming and cooling. Our climate is not static as many alarmist seem to imply. It changes all the time though on time scales of thousands of years. For the last several thousand years, we have been coming out of a glacial period and are in an interglacial period. These glacial and interglacial periods have been happening at regular intervals for over two million years due primarily to continental drift setting up the conditions and from cycles in our orbit, our axis or rotation know as the Milankovitch cycle
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycles
During this cycle warm periods theoretically result in the release of CO2 in the oceans since CO2 is less soluable in warm water. Also limestone is less soluable in warm water so calcite precipitation will also increase but that is a separate issue. CO2 is a greenhouse gas but its effects are small when compared to water vapor. Since the increasing CO2 was not previously demonstrated to be responsible for warming there is no good evidence that the increased CO2 is why it has warmed. The alarmists think of many excuses and reasons but they have not adequately explained why if CO2 is main driver in temperature why it was colder in the 1970s and certainly not the previous cold periods. In my opinion, the theories about about CO2 causing feed back are far fetched and probably are from Wesley Striebers, a fiction author, theory that warming will substantially release methane hydrate known to exist on the ocean floor causing an out of control warming trend.

The Earth is heated and cooled by the sun in multiple ways. One way is the direct heating of the surface from the rays that hit it. Another way is from certain wavelengths of the light that are reflected back and get absorbed by greenhouse gases and warm the atmosphere (mostly water vapor, methane and tiny amounts of CO2). This is the process called the greenhouse effect. The third way is through the effects of cosmic rays on cloud formations. The amount of energy we get from the sun changes in cycles. such as sunspot activity and the position of the Earth's orbit versus the sun in a couple hundred year cycle. The energy we get each year from the sun is constantly changing and guess what- the temperature of the Earth is affected by it. This is the problem with the alarmists. They want to blame every aspect of climate and weather on the greenhouse effect when there are many other things going on that they don't take into account. Most scientists now believe the alarmists are giving FAR too much weight to the greenhouse effect and too little or NO weight to any other of many known factors in their computer models. So their computer model predictions really are just complicated science fiction.

Humans would be unable to live on earth without the greenhouse effect as it would be too cold. It acts as a blanket and keeps us warm. So it is a good thing

Global warming means just that the world is getting warmer, this could be due to a number of factors, one of which (and the one that most scientists think is the cause) is humans relasing gases into the atmosphere.

Global warming is usually used today to mean warming caused by changes in the earth's atmosphere brought about by human activity. Used that way, they would be the same thing. Greenhouse Effect is the older term. Some claim Global Warming to be hypothetical. Greenhouse if proven by every example of a greenhouse on the planet.

It's been discussed and studied by scientists since mid 19th century. Contrary to what's been posted, it was the thoroughly debunked theory of another ice age that came out in the 1970's.

Greenhouse effect is the process of diffusion of solar energy to retain heat in our atmosphere.

Global Warming is the overall rise in average temperature of our oceans and surface temperature, resulting in climate change.

Global Warming in the past has caused massive CO2 dumps, creating a feedback loop (a feedback loop is a consequence of something that amplifies the effects).

This time around, many scientists believe that we are taking what was once a feedback loop and artificially stimulating it.. causing it to become a primary cause rather than a side effect amplification.

Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.

Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming.

It won't be a Hollywood style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Greenhouse theory was around from the 70s.
Excess pollution doesn't allow the heat to escape Earth's atmosphere and keeps the air's temperature higher as in a Greenhouse where plants grow and is enclosed to not allow warmth to escape.

Global warming blames a few ideas:
- de-forestation lets the sun warm the ground instead of having the ground cooler under tree canopies
- ozone layers being effected by pollutants allow certain types of sunlight through that were reflected before ozone holes were formed
- huge energy production creates heat that warms the environment
- water pollution in the oceans

Greenhouse talks of warming the atmosphere (air) while warming talks of ocean temperatures rising effecting the polar ice.

Buddy.. Greenhouse effect is a harmful effect of some gases on earth. These gases are known as greenhouse gases like-CO2, CFC etc..
As we know that if a body gets heat up then later it will be cooled down.. same as earth do. While during the day, it's get heated by sun light and in night it radiates the heat away. Here is the role of green house gases. These gases absorb the Radiated heat from earth and emitt this heat towards Earth again, Which makes earth hotter.-THIS IS ALL KNOWN AS GREENHOUSE EFFECT.
aS YOU KNOW THAT THIS EFFECT INCREASES THE TEMPERATURE OF EARTH-Which is known as global worming.

the greenhouse effect is really the green, or money, leaving YOUR house in the form of taxes.

global warming is the mechanism that is going to cause taxes to go up, therefore causing a green house effect.
