Call the relatives or estate executor and ask. It is possible that the litter was registered. Check with AKC if you know the names and/or reg numbers of the parents to see if the litter was registered, you should be able to go from there. Good luck.

Unless you are planning on showing him or working towards a championship the registry papers aren't necessary.

He is your pet. Not a show dog.

I am a firm believer that pets should be spayed/neutered. Unless you have his Pedigree Papers as well as his registry papers, he is just a pet.

I have a female German Shepherd & she was spayed at 4 months. She is just a pet, although a pretty dog but she came from a back yard breeder & has many faults according to the breed standards & is not breed worthy.

Check out the breed standards to see if you really need to register him. See if he has what it takes to even be breed worthy.

If he is a UKC breed and you have his 3 generation pedigree from the breeder, you can do a single dog registration. I had to do that for my dog because the breeder sent the pedigree but took for ever to do the litter registration. If you don't have any thing you may be SOL.

assuming he had papers before the executor of the estate of his former owner can sign them over to you - he may need a copy of the death certificate.

Unless the papers were kept & stored somewhere, you're out of luck. :(
