I removed my puppies cast today, ( my vet can`t take him in until tomorrow). Can I pit a little polysporin on his pressure sore. I`m glad I took his cast off, the vet was glad I did too. I removed it because he was wimpering. But could I put a little antibiotic cream on it???

His mobility is my concern.

Yes he is licking it...I will give him a bath, he`s dirty, and I`ll treat his wound.

Why not just pick up the phone to your vet to get the answer to this question? I would suggest doing this - ask the vet's advice as to whether you should cover the sore, or use some other method to stop puppy licking it, like an elizabethan collar. People on here will give you conflicting advice, how do you know which to follow?

Salty water would probably be less comfortable for the sores. On the other hand, antiseptic cream will probably just be licked off. Be sure to get your puppy in for his check when you can, and phone the vet after if the sore does not appear to be healing.

you should definitely wash it out with soap and water to remove any infectious agents that could have accumulated. Once the wound is clean, put some antibiotic cream on it and wrap it with a layer or two of gauze. You mentioned that you don't want to wrap him in a bandage, but the dog's natural response to a wound is to lick it. This could cause it to remain open and become infecting it. Wrapping it with guaze protects the wound from the dog and any infectious agents in the air. If you take care of it properly, you won't have to worry about an infection and a more serious problem in the future.

Yes, polysporin is fine. You may want to do a bandage wrap to keep him from licking it.
