IT seems like all of the microbrews flood their beer with hops....and now Sam Adams has a Hoppy pilsner....is it just me or does a huge amount of hops just ruin a good beer?

I love my IPA's
India Pale Ale - named because when England had colonized India, brewers had to add extra hops to their beer in order to maintain some bitterness over the long voyage; hops do lose bitterness over time. Well, these brewers decided that the extra hoppiness was pretty darn tasty, so why ship it. They just began drinking it themselves, and I am glad they did.

Hops (aside from being crucial to beer making) are certianly an aquired taste. If you really look at the catagory the a crtian beer is in the hops will fit the beer nicely. The Sam Adams pilsner is an Imperial pilsner so it will have a lot more everything, alchohol as well as hops. Try a Stella Artois or a Pilsner Urquell. they are traditional pilsners and they are hoppy too. It's nothine new, just something old comming back around.

Hops are CRUCIAL to the character of any beer. You're just complaining about really hoppy ones that you don't enjoy. Try a maltier ale, or go for stouts or porters.

Some us live for that perfect sharp hop bite on an IPA.

Everyone gave a good answer, like they said you need hops in any beer it's just a matter of finding the one you like that isn't so hoppy. Just stay away from IPA's (damn I love a good IPA). Try "Warsteiner" or some kind of amber ale.

Hops are essential to the flavor of beer...just steer clear of those hoppy ones you don't like.

Try drinking Scottish ales. Hops are kept to a minimum with this style of beer.

I agree with Hoopo, to some a heavily hopped beer is a much acquired taste, I love IPA's and don't really care for lagers at all.

I agree that many breweries are producing extra hoppy products that are, for my taste, out of balance.
There are plenty of "hop-heads" out there who enjoy drinking them however.
There is no arguing taste!

hops are great and fun to grow. In the spring they will grow 2 feet in one day...no lie
