Do you have to really be over the age of 18 to buy a box of water pills? And why do I keep getting carded?

While I wasn't aware of this, I can figure out why and there are two possible reasons for it.

The first reason is that no one under 18 years of age should take this medication due to the possibility of Reyes Syndrome. This is a rare illness associated with aspirin or products containing aspirin.

The second reason is that diuretics are one of the drugs of choice by anorexics. Sounds like some places are going to prevent those under the age of 18 from buying diuretics and may even be keeping track of those over 18 who are buying more than the normal amount of diuretics.

I can only hope that they are doing the same for laxatives (which are also abused by anorexics) and that there is some sort of reporting system so that these girls are then found and given treatment.
