What confidence can we have in documents, (1) authored by persons unknown (with the possible exception of Luke, who admits he was not an eyewitness), (2) written four or more decades after the events they purportedly describe, (3) drawn upon oral traditions, and hence subject to the unreliability of human memory, (4) each with a clear theological bias and apologetic agenda, (5) containing many undeniably fictional literary forms, (6) inconsistent with each other (except where one gospel plagiarizes another), (7) at odds with many known facts, (8) with virtually no support from independent sources, and (9) testifying to events which, in ordinary circumstances, we would regard as unlikely in the extreme?

The Gospels, unfortunately for believers, are the only "evidence" of the resurrection. They are not coroborated by archeological or historical evidence. The Gospels stories indeed were written decades after the assumed crucifixion of the Biblical Christ. They were written by anonymous persons and groups and were among many texts followed by a myriad of Jesus movement cults that sprung up during the first century AD. Whereas I, for one, think there is great value in the moralistic teachings of the New Testament and also find value in the hagiography and mythology of the life and death of Christ, after looking at the scientific data on the matter, I think the Gospel stories are not historical but legendary and come from centuries of convoluted oral tradition (like people playing the kid's game "telephone" over hundreds of years) that may have started with the Essenes in the first century BC. I recently read a paper that suggested that the prototype of Jesus of Nazareth may have been an Essene Gnostic who was a mage, spiritual teacher, and political provocateur named Yeishu ha Notzri who lived during the first century BC, was stoned to death by the Roman authorities and was then hung on a tree.

By no stretch of the imagination could the gospels be regarded as evidence, any more than the many publications featuring Superman are evidence for the existence of Kal-El.

Science is the seeking of truth and it claims no right to infallibility. As the search continues when and if previous theories are proved incorrect then science holds up it hands to just that! That is the important difference between religious book believers and people of reason.

Why would someone die for something they thought was untrue?
The facts are that as often as the Bible has been attacked, it has never been inconsistent or untrue, it fact many times it is correct when science says one thing is true, then says, nope, sorry we were wrong again.

Your points # 1,2, 3,4,5,6,7, and especially 8, are inaccurate.
I know you don't want to hear that and are probably offended, even angered .....however, you have not done your homework.
