I'm getting a perm for the first time, and I wanted to know any tips I should know. How do I keep my hair from getting too slick/oily in the first two days I'm not supposed to wash my hair? How do I mantain it so it stays nice? What type of styling products should I get? I have naturally straight hair.

i LOVE my curly hair!! i perm about every 6 months or so for the past 10 + years....
ok ... you won't have oily hair... the perm will dry it out and you will need the natural oils to re-moisturize....
get a product called gelee' by Biologe... mix it in a spray bottle with water about 1/2 & 1/2 or just less... ( of product ) spray it all over your hair while wet. you can blow dry your hair ( roots ) ( flip hair over ) to dry and let the rest air dry. at first the curls will be stiff, but let it go... by about lunch time or so the stiffness will be gone and you won't have frizz!!
another helpful hint... don't wash your hair every day... on the day off from washing, just condition it. also... when you put conditioner in your hair leave just a little in to keep the shine!!

If Your Hair Gets Oily And You Don't Want To Wash It Try Using An Areosol Hairspray To Blot-Up The Oil By Spraying The Roots Only And Use A Paper Towel To Blot-Up The Hairspray. When You Do Wash It, Use A Gentle Shampoo And A Good RINSE-OUT Conditioner To Keep From Weighing Down Your Hair. Put A Hair Net On Your Wet Hair And Allow It To Dry Naturally.

Curls Rock by bedhead and fresh curls by redken are products that I would recommend if I was giving you the perm. if you want a soft bodywave perm use all white rods or alternate purple and white. If you have long hair and getting a spiral put in, use the grey rods. Longer the hair, the looser the curl. Also have them use the opticurl by matrix as this is a very nice permwave solution. You are also allowed to wet your hair the first two days, just not shampoo it. When you get your perm make sure that they rinse well after each solution application, otherwise you might stink for a few days. If rinsed well, it should have a light odor to it. The recommendation for rinsing is about 5 minutes per solution application. also having your ends trimmed 1/4 inch every other month will let you have a long lasting perm. If you have bleach on your hair or if you have colored over the bleach or just color on your hair, have them do a test curl after 3 minutes. If you do have bleach (highlights) on your hair, be prepared that you might experience some breakage, the perm solution can melt it off. Good luck to you.

Just make sure you keep it moisturized and you could wrap your head up when you sleep as to protect it from being severely smashed. Just avoid anything that knocks out perms.
