My mother has a perspiration problem which is baffling the doctors. When she wakes up, her sheets have turned blue in areas where her lower body has been in contact with them. Why?

It has to be a chemical reaction with the sweat and something in the detergent or fabric softener. Some detergents that have whiteners in them work by increasing the amount of blue that is reflected from fabric. Try using a detergent without a whitener, and without fabric softener to see if that's what's happening.

There is an extremely rare medical condition called Chromhidrosis that causes people to secrete blue-colored sweat, but not from the lower body (only around the face, chest and arm pits).

Maybe she has a chemical in her sweat that causes the sheets to change when sweat hits them. I have a similar problem when I either wash my face or hands after sweating and wipe them on a towel. The towel actually has like bleach marks. I always assumed there was something in my sweat that caused the oxidation. Maybe your Mom has the same thing. Have the doctors said they are worried?
