I thought it might be nice to surprise her with a vow renewal, but what do you think?
Good suggestions? There can't be much cost involved though.

well some posters went alot overboard with their outrage on why you ask for just christians ideas, i must admit i find it confusing since your own suggestion is not christian related at all. here are some "christian" ideas to celebrate your first anniversary since that is what you want i guess
* flog your self with whips
* buy a mini van
* protest against some gays some where
* convert some non-believers
* pray
* be chaste for a year to show your true love of Christ
* be a witness at an execution
* make a scrap book with all your favorite bible scriptures
* take a turn guarding the border
* talk in tongues
* give some money to a tv evangelist
* buy some dockers
* buy some prairie dresses
* buy some new chalk for your home school blackboard
* spank your children in to submission
the possibilities are endless ....congrats on one year!

a vow renewal is always good. most people don't do it until like after 10-15 yrs but i think to keep things fresh and renewed every year is a good idea. i know how it is to be limited in the cost area so .... here is my suggestion to enhance your vow renewal night. woman love attention to detail, we like the little things. pull out the wedding photos, maybe put a pic with some intimate words from your heart on the back, you can get it enlarged and a nice frame if you like. if dining out isn't an option make a great meal, all her favorites, with maybe some aphrodisiacs added (oysters on the half shell , strawberries dipped in chocolate, wine). draw her a bath, add candles, wash her hair (most women LOVE this). you see where i am headed with this. But most of all what ALL women love is for their man to TALK!! tell her how a year ago you gained the best thing ever, talk about how pretty she looked on your wedding day, talk about how great your life has been since. she will never forget it

A vow renewal after a year is a bit soon.. Most people wait at least 5 years..

I would suggest a nice dinner (a romantic picnic is great)... Something you can do with just the 2 of you...

On our 4th anniversary my husband created a romantic walk for me... He went out early and thumb tacked several envelopes to trees along a lovely secluded wooded trail near our home.. Each envelope contained a piece of a puzzle (He had taken a piece of posterboard and written a card then cut it into pieces... ) As we walked I got to collect the envelopes each with an I love you note on it. The last envelope was at a lovely picnic spot overlooking a stream we had a picnic of finger foods we could feed each other (His mom helped with the food) And I put together his card on which he had written a very corny, very sweet poem about how much he loves me... (I still have the envelopes and the card pieces)

It didn't cost much monetarily, he invested his time in me which means far more than money...

Did you break your vow that you would need to renew them?

The greatest gift you have is each other. If you want to say that you love her, find a Christian book store and look at their cards. I sure that you will find one the expresses your love and devotion.

Simple gifts are the best. And your time is the greatest you have to give. Find something she likes and do it. Remember you are celebrating your life together, together in the Holy Spirit.

I will leave out the various biblical quotes; however, if you do a search for husband in the entire bible, you will find them. From Moses to Jesus and his disciples.

Answer: You are the most precious gift to your wife. As a Christian you can go to God's word and find what it is to be a husband. This will take a little time and your time is her gift.

I think it is too soon for a vow renewal. The classical roses should be enough, maybe with a phrase taken from the Song of Songs.

I think the vow renewal should be saved for after 10/20 years it's too soon to do that after the 1st year.

However, it would be nice to jot down somewhere for the weekend or a really nice restaraunt for the evening ... go home and eat your cake-top (it's tradition) and have the bed covered with rose pedals.... champagne chilled and music flowing (one of your buddies owes you a favor I'm sure)

I'd save the vow renewal for a few more years down the road. Take her to the place where you guys first met, or where you had your first date. Trust me, she'll think it's very romantic and sweet that you remembered.

I thought of that too when it was our first, but I
changed my mind - the tenth anniversary is more
appropriate for that, I think.
My husband gave me a music box with a song on it
that was special to our relationship and we went out
to the same restaurant where we met. It was romantic!
For our most recent anniversary (6 years), everthing we
did happened to be free - it was a free day for an art
museum, we walked in a Japanese garden that was
free, and my parents gave us a gift certificate to
Red Lobster. It was fun! We only had to pay for
the fuel to get there.
