Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
2 Timothy 3:15 Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy14 But continue you in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing of whom you have learned them;
3:15 And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished to all good works.
Study what? Why?

Study the Holy Scriptures! Think about this.
What Scriptures existed at the time Paul wrote those words? There was NOTHING OTHER THAN THE "OLD" TESTAMENT.
Paul never called it "old". He called it ESSENTIAL. Absolutely necessary.
If the "new" testament doesn't line-up with the "old", then you've got some serious doctrinal issues.
I'm sick of people making a distinction between the two. As if this "new thang" takes precedence over what is eternal.
Nothing in the "new testament" is NEW. It's just, simply, true. The Bereans knew what to do, but the church, evidently, has a "better" way. Well, good luck in your "better way". Satan has really pulled a good one on you.

Keep studying his word, the Bible and you will be a man of teaching and spreading the good news throughout your community, your state, country, and overseas to give hope and instruction to those who want to hear and share in the good news.
When you continue to do your studying of the scriptures you attain accurate knowledge and can therefore go about doing the good preaching work, and be fully equipped to do all good works. When you were a child you were learned the ways of God as a child, therefore you come up with the truth and will fare better in life than someone who has not, or someone who has rejected the truth should you continue to keep in way of the truth.
Keep gaining accurate knowledge. No one ever has all knowledge and learns something new each time he/she studies God's word.

study the scriptures. Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee. one cannot plead ignorance when the time comes. for he said, the times of this ignorance, God winked at (he overlooked it) but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent. why? because if we don't know what his word says, how are we to know what we will be judged by and what is expected of us. how are we to decide which religions are true and which are false if we do not study the word and seek out our own salvation with fear and trembling. are we supposed to just take somebody's word for it? no. we need to know the word. those that were more noble were those that searched the scriptures to see if what was being preached to them was the truth. did peter preach the truth? did paul preach the truth?
we have to have a knowledge in order to follow. we don't follow blindly and make things up as we go. the original doctrine will dispell all the mutations man has made of it.

Well Mr. Ranger:
Acts 17:11 contains the answer to your question.
The scriptures!
Sometimes called the Bible.
Same with 2 Timothy 3:16 ....."All scripture".
WHY?
To show ourselves noble-minded.
To not be ashamed before God.
To be made wise .....2 Timothy 3:15.
To be thoroughly furnished to accomplish good works.

We are to study the scriptures our self, we are not to believe the words of others, because that is how many get on the wrong tract, they fail to read and study the scriptures themselves, and then they find them selves following false doctrine, which leads to the lose of ones soul. Jesus is warning us of all the false teachers and false doctrine that will be presented to us. If we faithfully study the scripture, then we can see the difference in true doctrine and false doctrine and will not fall to the false teaching. Alot of people in the Church today are being led by false teaching and don't realize that it is not correct doctrine, because they fail to study the scripture, and whats so sad about it, their failure to study will leave them lost and not saved like they think they are.

These verse are telling us to study the scriptures (Bible). They are the only commandments we should follow and we should not just take the word of the preacher for granted.
Acts 17:11 show that after hearing the word preached, they studied the scriptures for themselves to make sure what they were taught was the truth.
That is one of the reasons the catholic church discourages the average persons to read the Bible. They insist that the average person cannot understand it without help. However, the verses above show that to be false.
You can understand the Bible and should study it for yourself.

The answer is in the question...what we call the Old Testament. Everything that was needed for Salvation was already there...once the Gospel of Christ is preached...the Word of God should be obeyed. It never changed. Most specifically the Commandments. Love in Christ, ~J~

The Bible is telling you to study the Bible. That if you are noble-minded, you will inspect it in great depth. Proof of its veracity is that the more it's studied, the more it will hold up.
If you approach it with the assumption that it is true, and you want to prove to yourself that it is true and useful in the lives of all, you will be able to do it.
On the other hand, if you study it with no predetermined expectations, you will find it to be flawed and inconsistent. You will find its hero(es) to be violent, schizophrenic and irrationally demanding.
Study up!
