You didn't make any attempt to answer the question.

If the question was completely unclear, either move on without answering, or point out what they could do to make the question clearer. (I often list a bunch of possible interpretations, and ask which they meant, or ask a bunch of clarifying questions.)

If you aren't interested in actually helping the asker, then don't click Answer This Question.

Saying "dunno" is just one word, and that, too is a violation.

Remember the whole point of the site is a place where people can get answers, advice, help, etc.

Edit after reading the other answers: Some people are assuming it was the asker who reported you; that's not necessarily the case. It could have been anyone.

I was just reading yesterday the new community guidelines and the new rules regarding reporting.
It seems they are cracking down more on answers that seem only to get the 2 points and the questioner probably felt that your one word answer was just that.
There seems to be a lot of changes with the new guidelines and the new way of reporting. From what I gathered the community now governs all - that you are ranked by certain criteria. Your ranking gives you "weight" as to what happens when you report something. Hope I'm making sense :) If not just go read it on the answers blog.

It was probably decided that it was not answering the question.some people on this site just put '.' or '?' as an answer to get 2 points.YA want to stamp this out so have put it in their 'don't do' list.
Answering a question with 'I don't know' is also pointless and will get a violation.
I've just got a violation about a joke about why a lot of black people got killed in the Vietnam war...
Every time the officer shouted "GET DOWN!" they all started dancing.
Dozens of people, including black people said they liked it but one mean sod reported it and I got a violation.

You probably got it b/c the person who asked the question felt that "what" was not an answer. There is a violation for "not a question/not an answer". It sucks, but we've all gotten violations for stupid reasons.

I had one for a 'RANT'. as explained to me, I could report you now, YA would delete the question and no investigation would take place. Sucks, don't it? Some one with a huge IQ and no sense of humour took offence at your answer. Reported you, and thats that. Sorry fella,.

p.s. if you want to have a giggle, look on my profile , asked questions, 'I got a violation notice....' theirs loads of great advice and info in the answers to that.

Just believe it already. If you did not want to answer the question or could not answer the question, you should have passed it up. Your answer was of no help or relevant to the question in any way. You can pick up two points anywhere, do it on a question you can honestly answer.

Have a nice day. : )

These things DO happen to the best of us. I am not sure of the logic involved, or not, for that matter. Someone must have reported it. Hopefully it won't happen often in future.

You did not answer her question or even attempt to answer it. The word "What" is not an answer. That's against community guidelines.

Yahoo, that's what's going on.
It never surprises me anymore the crazy violations they give out.

Yahoo Answers is rife with right-wing types who will call anything that reveals the truth about America offensive, just to censor the site.
