my maine coon/tabby mix is 8 years old (in human years) and it is crapping and pissing everywhere in my house...is it sick, or is it a sign that the cat is going to die?

Eight is not that old for a cat. Indoor cats can live to be 16 or older. There could be a number of things wrong and your cat should probably see a vet. It might be something very simple and cheap to treat. If the cat goes outside it could have been poisoned, or it could have contracted a disease from another cat. There's possible kidney or bladder problems going on here and it could also be something as simple as you need to clean the litter box more or get a different type of litter. If you want to e-mail me with more details, feel free.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear you kitty is feeling poorly. I would take him/her to the vet and their is a medication that they can put your cat on to help with elimination problems.
I agree with the second answer of Kitty Cat.....putting out several litter boxes is a great idea...especially as your cat is getting older. No your Maine Coon life is the same as those of the general cat population: 15-20 years.
By 8-10 years the cat is considered entering into the older age cat...and yes they will have bladder problems but the normal causes are because they have ARTHRITIS. Yes cats get arthritis just like older adults do. Especially with all the jumping they do during their lifetime. There joints wear out and the fluid surrounding their joints (synovial fluid) becomes less and then you have arthritis that is "bone on bone" ... a very painful condition.
That is why I agree with putting out several litter boxes...especially in the room your cat stays in the most. He/She will begin to use it again if you keep it close by.
With arthritis it makes it difficult for your cat to go DISTANCE, so the close litter box is terrific.
Wishing you well with kitty. Blessings, Patti
PS Good for you to pick up on how much she is in pain...she is not trying to be "bad" she is actually showing you she needs "your help and the vets". Blessings, Patti

First, considerable Coon is on the subject of the main important breed of enjoyed ones cat, kinda the Saint Bernard or Irish Wolf hound equivalent. At 17 lbs your cat nonetheless has room to strengthen. I actual have a Bombay at 15 lbs, and he's basically 15 months. no longer fat, no longer interior the least, he's basically vast!!! There could desire to be web content devoted specifically on your breed and in case you examine amazon they could desire to have books on the project. My oldest cat is 17 and the vet tells me he could desire to be certain 25, yet maximum cats die between 15 and 20, so 40 seems a stretch to me, however the 30lbs could desire to be achievable. keep in mind, the bigger the cat the better the backside weight, so 17 lbs is in all likelihood somewhat on the small side. you may desire to examine alongside with your vet.

take it to the vet.

it could have an infection, or an illness, or could just be a behavioral problem.

if it turns out a behavioral problem you might have to get a crate for the cat for times when you can't "watch" it all the time....

i hope it works out. maine coons are nice kitties.

Many older animals do that because they can't get to the bathroom in time, and because there bladders get weaker. Try putting multiple little boxes in different areas in the house.

well they can definitely live longer than 8 years. it doesn't mean they will, but they generally do. either way you cat is sick, he needs a vet, or he probably will die if you don't get him treated.
