Well take a look around at this "stand on my own two feet" culture... doesn't seem to be working for very many people. Even the rich people are lonely and suffering it their own ways (drugs, alcohol, etc).
Living a life of God isn't difficult. The obedience part isn't difficult either, because in the end, if you are a true Christian, it isn't like "work". So you say "no" when someone offers you some drugs, or "no" when someone asks if you want to go out partying with them. Not a huge loss.
And frankly how hard is it to keep his commandments?
I don't have trouble at all being obedient to God at all. It becomes a way of life, that feels wrong if you fall off track.

That's simple. You know that while you may be standing on your own two feet it is God who holds you up. It is not good enough to just follow commandments. The commandments can only point out that it is impossible to keep them, that is why we need to be saved. I go through my days seeking Gods will for me, what He wants me to do. I know I am not perfect, can't keep the commandments on my own and don't even think in that way. If you try to live a life by the laws you are doomed to failure. You can not identify with the laws, you have to Identify with being a child of God and not a man of the world. If you are still identifying with the laws {commandments} you are still identifying with this world. The only command of Gods you should live by is Love God first and your neighbor as I have loved you. Then you will be doing Gods will.

Developing an obedient nature does not take away from one's individualism .......IF one understands why they're obeying.
We must study God's word, first to really know what God's commandments are, then to see the wisdom in them.
One could compare it to surviving an emergency.
A person might be urging us to go a certain way to escape.
Will we say 'No, I don't wish to lose my individualism", or will we be grateful, follow instruction ....and survive.
Today's world is Satan's world.
It is doomed.
God is pointing us in a certain direction, for our safety.
Let's be grateful.

The commandments are just a set of rules to keep you safe from self destruction. In today's world, keeping them is actually being the individual rather than going with the crowd. It's a matter of saying to the masses "no thanks, that's not for me" and realizing that you will probably be rejected, which is actually a good thing considering who's doing the rejection.

You have to remember that this modern life is only for a short time. Being here is just a flash in Gods time. I can follow God and his word for a small 70+ years knowing that one day I will live with him forever and ever.
It is hard since we are born in sin but the end results after knowing him is far better.

Obedience is crucial in the life of a born again Christian. It provides a refuge from the sins of the world and helps ward off temptation. The prophet Samuel told King Saul that he was losing his kingdom because of disobedience. "22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king." 1 Samuel 15:22, 23
If God did not spare Saul and let him continue as king, can we expect to be treated better than Saul? Samuel compared disobedience to witchcraft, which is a sin punishable by death, (Exodus 22:18; Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." What will happen to us if we are disobedient?

It fits quite well, thanks! Because we love Christ, we want to please Him with the way we live our lives. Obedience is a natural choice in the life of a Christian.
It's easy to keep God's commandments and remain an individual because we ARE individuals. That's how God created us.

complete obedience to God would make one an individual in itself......but we shouldn't strive to make ourselves important...that is not humility....that being said..living in obedience to God is not always easy.....but the practice of self restraint is always rewarding.....
