My two year old son is a complete whirlwind. He doesn't really like to sit and play with toys and is a very 'entertain me' child, as opposed to my daughter who entertained herself. What can I do to keep him occupied while I'm making dinner/clearing dinner? I let him 'help' as much as I can (getting things out of the fridge, helping me set the table), but while I'm cooking is the problem. I've tried letting him go outside and play, but he's bored--he has no interest in his toys (even the ones he just got for his birthday). HELP! He's only calm when sleeping, otherwise it's a whirlwind from 5-8pm....

My son was the same at two! One thing that worked well for us while I was cooking was to pull out tupperware/plastic bowls and wooden spoons so he could "cook" too. I bought plastic "food" toys that he also used in his "recipes".

This is the same thing I was going through so I went out and got my daughter a PlayDough set. Sound crazy I know, but she can only play with it on the kitchen floor,(so it doesn't end up in the carpet. Also it keeps her in the kitchen with me so I can keep and eye on her. But she is only allowed to play with this while I am making dinner, this makes it special and she wants to use it while she can before her time runs out so she usually doesn't get bored with it. If you do this get some playdough and a few of the accessories like the scissors and the things they squeeze it through, she loves that stuff. Then when I am about 3 min away from dinner I have her clean it up, and since it is on the hard floor clean up is easy.
Good luck!

wow, sounds like you just described my 2 year old daughter. one new thing I bought that has worked for a couple days now,is a magna doodle pad that you attatch to the wall. so the kids think they are coloring on the wall. its pretty cool. im sure she will get bored with it in a few days though.
