In 1968 and 1969, an easily-photographable apparition of the Virgin Mary appeared almost nightly atop the Coptic Orthodox Church in Zeitoun, Egypt -- a suburb of Cairo. Thousands of photos were taken, and up to 250,000 people/night were eye-witnesses.
To the best of my knowledge, NO messages were given to anyone.
In the USA, the American news media totally IGNORED this amazing and monumental event! The blackout on that story was ABSOLUTE in this country!

I phoned Mutual News in Chicago one Saturday Morning, to ask why that was, and was amazed to find I'd dialed straight through to Paul Harvey!
That was almost 40 years ago, but I still remember his answer to this question as though it were yesterday. He said, "You have to be very careful when dealing with the occult."
If I could talk to Paul Harvey again today, I'd like to ask him this follow-up question: "Why?"

To "WWJB" -- Sorry to disappoint whomever wrote all that tripe that you quoted, but Judaism has NO say over whatever gentiles my choose to do (unless they attack or besmirch Jews). And that includes death penalties for absurd "offenses."
But back to the topic at hand -- did you even bother to READ this question?

To "Sapere Aude! - Dare to know!" -- With a nick like yours, you AGREE with Paul Harvey on that point? **Why?** How is **that** "daring to know?"

To "loki3232" -- You said, "People who believe this stuff are disturbing." Really? All **several hundred-thousand** of those who were eye-witnesses, and who took thousands of photos of the event? Do you take lessons from ostriches?

To "scotty_84116" -- There's a HUGE difference between claims by Joseph Smith, and hundreds of thousands of eye-witnesses, many of whom are still living, of a major, photographable event. There'd probably be a LOT less skepicism of Mormonism if they could PRODUCE those fabled golden tablets.
SHOW us the tablets, and we'll accord some credibility to them. Gold doesn't just "disappear." Nor does it rust or corrode. So if there ever **were** any such tablets, they still exist -- unless someone melted them down. And what Mormon would do *that* to them?

To "Sapere Aude" -- If scientist capable of studying the phenomena in Zeitoun had learned of the events in time, and had been able to study them, I would have been HAPPY to provide their links! As for the Portugal event, who's to say that it wasn't a supernatural event that only those present were allowed to witness? We can't even BEGIN to comprehend the capabilities of the beings in the dimension (or whatever their realm consists of) that we call "supernatural" may be.

I agree with Paul Harvey.
I already "knew" that part of my life, that believe in such supernatural occurences.
Through careful study and reasoning, I have determined that for most (I can' say all) supernatural events, there is a completely natural logical explanation.
Just because I cannot "see" it at this time, I have the patience to wait and see what is determined through studies done by people who are not of the "faith".
Yes, I do think these things should not be put in newspapers, it feeds the hype. Especially, when no scientist (who wasn't of faith) had an opportunity to truly investigate it.
If they did, would you be posting their links?

Interesting question. It isn't an isolated incident, though the particular nature of the event is maybe unusual.
Harvey was probably just observing from the perspective of caution on the part of news media, sponsor support, etc.
But an awfully lot goes on in the world that is missed entirely by the media, or simply met with a shrugging skepticism a lot of people, including scientists, would probably label 'healthy'.

The occult has the tendency to draw people in - and eventually become the focus of their curiosity, although the apparition may have appeared in the form of the virgin mary anyone that has done any form of communication with the dead (via Ouija or other means) you'd know that demons and/or other malicious spirits will attempt to portray themselves as something/someone that people think they can trust.
The media in the U.S. may have felt at the time that it was in the better interests of the American people to leave said broadcasts from airing in the states for that reason.
However; I don't own any media outlets that made any of the decisions during that era. :þ

Joseph Smith claimed to see God the Father and his son, Jesus Christ. He was commisioned to usher in the final dispensation of the gospel but his writings are generally either slandered or ignored by the news media and public. Have you read the Book of Mormon? (speaking to all).

Probably because, like today, any media reporting of religion has bias read into it. So, rather than incite hatred from the wrong groups (and affect advertising revenues, etc), best to play it safe and report as little as possible.

I would say yes. Any proof of anything giving credibility to God's existence threatens people...see, if they were confronted, that means they would HAVE to respond to it. And people like to have things how they want them.
From time to time, things happen, make the news briefly, then are forgotten about.

Jewish Ruling concerning Christianity :
"...according to the known Jewish ruling that Christians are idol worshippers." (Likkutei Sichos 37:198)
"We must not make a covenant with idolaters, to agree on keeping peace with them or accept them practising idolatry, because it says (Deut 7:2) Thou shalt not make a covenant with them. Either they give up idolatry or they are killed. And it is forbidden to pity them, since it says (ibid.): Nor shalt thou shew mercy unto them.

"Our task consists of preparing the Israeli army for the new war approaching in order to achieve our ultimate goal, the creation of an Israeli EMPIRE. - Moshe Dayan
"Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburg says he knows in the near future the Land of Israel is about to expand. 'It is our duty to force all mankind to accept the seven Noahide laws, and if not – they will be killed.'"
A gentile...is liable for the death penalty...if he has invented a religious holiday for himself...The general principle is we do not allow them to make new religious rituals and to make 'mitzvahs' for themselves by their own devices. Rather they may either become a Ger Tzeddek and accept all the Mitvahs; or he (the Noahide) should stand fast in his Torah (the seven Noahide Laws) without adding or diminishing...and if he does make some new 'mitzvah,' we lash him, punish him, and inform him that he is obligated with the death penalty for this..." (Rambam Mishne Torah—Hilchos Melachim 10:9)

Stop looking for signs and make things happen.
God is good but, you need to get with reality.
If God wanted to give a sign we would ALL see it.
It's about FAITH not proof.
People who believe this stuff are disturbing.
