It doesn't really matter to me as I'm not a big racing fan but my finacee is really hoping it will be #81. He likes that number and it will be easy for fans with tattoos to get them changed. I've been to a few Nascar races when he is there, and for me it's just as easy to cheer for #8 as any other number.

I just asked a question a few minutes ago about WHY he was changing his number so maybe you can check that out and help me out!

I like the idea of the #81. It's got the "8" in it ( which will appease many fans.me included :p). He's already run the number multiple times in the Busch series, and it's got a little family familiarity.

His father ran the 81 for a year or two back when he ran the sportsman division in North Carolina ( way before remotely being in the "scene")

See? Perfect number =)

Also, for anyone with an "8" tattoo, it won't be too hard to shimmy a "1" in there.

AS of this morning, it was announced on ESPN that Yates has sold the rights to the number 88 and Hendrick has purchased the rights to that number, and will use it on the car that Dale Jr. will drive for them. Jr.'s number for next year is officially set, it will be # 88....... Not a rumor, watch ESPN.

Oh gosh... the dreaded no. of Jr.'s car. The only reason I thought it would be nice for him to keep the number was more for sentimental reason's due to his grandfather driving that number etc....

I guess the tatoo shops will have an influx of customers in the next few weeks. And if you have gear better get out the marks-a-lot:-) Maybe Theresa will give everyone that bought memorabilia from DEI a refund if returned in the next 30 days!

I too will be glad that its finally over.

I mean come on Jr fan's ...it's JUST a number! If Carl Edwards were to go to a different team I wouldn't be all up in arm's about him getting to use the #99 or not .

Look at it this way ..Jr is going to a team where he might do better and possibly win a title .

The number or the sponsor has nothing to do with how a team does .

IF Jr had done some really BIG winning .Winning alot of race's ,winning as many championship's as his dad and King Richard or even beating the title's record I would understand .

I've never heard fan's of any other driver getting ALL upset when their driver switched team's and the driver didn't get to take their old number .

Its gonna be almost anticlimactic when the announcement does come. Pretty much every number has been speculated on and the serious guesses havent changed. With all these weeks of hype and fans trying to figure out what the number will be it will be nice to see it quiet down.

I feel if you wanna come to a great team like Hendricks, you should take what ever number they give you, 5, 25 what ever you car your gonna take over, if you wanna be a redneck and mark up your body that's your business but if your a true fan you'll add one more or cover it up,so what it comes down to take it or leave it!!!! I really do love Jr. but he is not the GOD of NASCAR!!!!!!

For Nascarl -
You're right. If Carl switched you wouldn't see/hear all the hubbub that has surrounded Jr switching teams. Of course I've never heard of "Carl Nation" either. Wins or not, like it or not, Jr has the largest fan base in Nascar. Taking that into consideration, are you really surprised about all the talk surrounding this?

Now I personally don't care one way or another, but I can't say that I'm surprised about any of this.

I like the #38 better. Glad to see Eury coming with him. Bet all the merchandising people are happy as hell to have his number change. Lots of new hats and shirts to sell.
