Reasons like these:
Indecent exposure to the opposite sex
Potential for rape
Sexual harassment cases
Little kids being exposed too early in life to mature adults' features
Hygiene needs are too different to be comfortable- ex. it would be awkward for a young female adjusting to their natural changes to use a tampon dispenser with guys walking in and out

The combination public bathroom is just a bad idea and is only a good thing to perverts which makes me believe that is what you are.

The "...good for the gander" adage refers to equality, such as with wages, etc. Having separate bathrooms is something that so-called "civilized" nations have become used to, and most of us would be uncomfortable if there were unisex lavoratories in public places.

Speaking of "goose", let's take a "gander" at the
restaurant and see what's cooking for dinner! ;)

Imagine if you had a 8 year old daughter or a young teenager pulling down her pants in a bathroom where men are around. I would hope it woudlnt' be a problem, but there are a lot of pervs out there.

Besides, it would take forever to get in and out unless the bathroom was huge. And I know for myself, I like having the chance to fix my hair/make up where my guy isn't around when we are on a date.

Also, how akward would it be bieng in a bathroom with the guy you are just starting to date, or your dad? Or whatever. You know what I mean.

I would not feel confident walking into a co-ed public bathroom. There are a lot of pervs out there. The potential for rape is too great.
Would I want my very pretty 9 yr old granddaughter running in to one of those by herself? Or even, the grandson? No way in this world!!! Rape or kidnapping happening too often these days.

I personally don't understand why there are two separate bathrooms. In most places in the world, outside of the US, bathrooms are co-ed. And if there are two separate bathrooms for men and women, there is still a shared sink area.

If you have ever been in a mens bathroom you would know why! Poo poo everywhere and the loud noises. Yuck! Plus then there would be a line up at the mens room.

Interesting Q. Maybe because people are afraid that someone might see something that well embarrass them.
In Germany the bathrooms are co-ed.

I am happy to have separate restrooms - men tend to miss the toilet/urinal and that's pretty gross to have to walk through someone's urine.
