I have a medium dog but yes -- no problems. I had them in a puppy pen during the day with wee pads. Yes it was messy when I got home but I immediately took them out and said "pee" and "poop" and they did. Then played with them, fed them "pee and poop" again - back in pen. Crated at night. Of course length of time is important -- if you're gone more than 7 or 8 hours total I would ask a friend to let them out at least one time. As they get older they will hold it longer but whatever you do NEVER EVER get upset as it does take longer when you're not there.

Crate training is the best way to train your dog for many reasons. The crate should be no bigger than the puppy (yes you will have to change sizes as he gets older) so, the dog only has wnough room to stand up and turn around. No more room than that. You should not keep him in there for long hours of the day. Take him out of the crate when you come home and take him directly outside until he goes to the bathroom. he will learn not to go into his crate because he does not want to lay in the mess. Yes, he will cry. But stick to your guns. also, the dog will only be alpha to his crate and not want to own your house. Also, he will resort to going into his crate when he feels threated instead of biting.

I acquired my dog at eight weeks historical and I was once waking up each and every couple of hours to permit her pass external and relieve herself at night time the primary 2 weeks within the crate. She not ever did urinate or defecate within the crate and it was once beautiful significant for her measurement. Now that she's four months historical, she is most often potty teach and hasn't had an coincidence within the condominium. She consistently asks to move external or holds it till we get again. I'd say the primary 2 weeks are going to be the toughest however as she will get older, it will get less complicated for then to preserve it in all night time they usually begin being used to the crate. Give it time and ultimately they're going to begin to fairly just like the crate and your endurance will likely be rewarded. As for the pooping within the crate, I could stick to the small crate. Anything better will likely be a step again within the potty coaching method in view that they're going to consider they are able to simply relieve themselves there, and you do not wish to be cleansing the crate each and every morning for the relaxation of her lifestyles! Before she is going to mattress, be certain she has eaten and been external to permit her relieve herself. Also playtime or a SHORT stroll perhaps moneymaking to aid get the bowels relocating and make it less complicated for her to poop. Get right into a hobbies and comply with it at night time so she is aware of what to assume earlier than going into the crate. Also if the poop is abnormal watching, take her to the vet in view that she would now not be ready to aid pooping in her crate if this is a clinical main issue. Hope this is helping and well success!

Being gone for the majority of the day will make it difficult to housebreak your puppy. This is why I recommend anyone who is out of their home all day adopt an older puppy/dog.
Leaving newspapers and pee pads around really does nothing to aid in housebreaking...it simply encourages in-home elimination. The best and most effective way to housebreak a puppy of any breed is to take the dog outside frequently (every hour is ideal) and give verbal and physical praise when the dog eliminates outside. As the dog gets older, his muscle control will further develop, and he will be able to be left for longer periods of time.

Crate training is best but for a puppy you will need to find someone to stop by mid-day to feed, water and take your dog potty. Can you find a family member, neighbor or friend to help or perhaps you can use a pet sitting service for a short period of time till puppy is older (or a combination of these)?

the one and only way to potty train a dog is with a crate. if you let him go on paper, he will never learn that he cant do that. i left my pup in a crate for about 6-7 hours every day when she was little when i was at work and she potty trained in like 2 weeks TOPS. just take them out right before you put it in, then take the pup outside as soon as you get home

You can try having a dog walker, or if you trust a 10 to 14 year old neighbor, ask them to walk and take the dog out when they get home, for an half hour

a small dog is okay, its a puppy I would worry about. People just dont know that a toy breeds bladders are very very very small and they over water the dog-if you will.
try limiting water intake. Kenneling will be fine.
