My dentist has what he calls a happy pill. It is a little white pill that you take 1hour before your appointment and it will relax you. You will need someone to drive you there and home because it will knock you out for the day. Ask your dentist about it. I hope this helps.

I've a good idea what you do. it is said that those you are in medical professions make the very worst patients. You know that you will be OK I know that you will be OK it's just that seeing others squirm you do not want to do the same thing.
Best wishes none of us like that trip and all of us become shall we say a little introspective as the time nears

When I was nursing, I remember a chap who was covered in tattoos but terrified of the dental needle. It is very common so please don't be embarrassed,Dental staff are experienced in dealing with your fears,it's best to be honest and open and they will support you all the way. Try to relax as much as possible while having the treatment, concentrate on breathing slowly and deeply. In cases of severe anxiety it is possible to be referred for sedation, although it can be expensive. Ask your Dentist for details, good luck.

oh please tell us what you do. I am also very scared of needles. What I do is before he comes near me with the needle i keep my eyes closed. My dentist uses a gel which helps numb the gum before the needle so you don't feel it at all. It really works. Ask your dentist about it.

Explain to the dentist about your fears - although they probably already realise if you have been to them before. Take a friend along with you for moral support. Think about really nice things - promise yourself a treat afterwards.

If you liked needles, you would be weird. No one likes them. Maybe if you took better care of your teeth in the first place you wouldn't have to get them worked on. Just accept that it is a part of routine dental care and maybe it will motivate you to take better care of your mouth.

Come on now Matron, get the dentist to apply some of that numbing gel on your gum before he jabs it.
Then imagine him stood their in his "Y" fronts, that will give you a laugh and take your mind off it.

Just guessing, there is a topical anesthetic that can be rubbed over the gums, there is also "laughing gas' which can help reduce pain.

try relaxing before going in. Also if you have to have an injection, then I have to sing to myself while they are doing it. Close my eyes and humm a tune.
