Some do and some don't. When you understand that there are around 2500 Christian denominations and more being created every day and that they all (well most) claim to base their beliefs on the Bible its easy to see they don't all interpret everything the same.

The Old Testament was hand written and hand copied for thousands of years and there for subject to errors creeping into the text. Over the centuries scriputres were changed and deleated to suit the understanding of the scribes or for political motives.

The New Testament is a collection of letters written by the apostles of Christ to the various churches or congregations they established. These letters have been copied and recopied and were collected into a volumn of scripture about 400AD by the Catholic Church which claims direct authouity from Peter. The history of the scriptures clearly indicate the changes that were introduced by early church leaders as time passed and they no longer understood them or it became politically expedient to change the meanings. Also the selection of books to be included was made by men about 400AD from a much larger collection than we currently have. Example the Catholic Bible contains books that the King James version does not have.

Certain mainstream religions believe the Bible to be the infallible word of God, it is perfect, corrrect and complete in every detail. Knowing its history you can judge for yourself if that is reasonable. For and example: Take the issue of the method of baptism. Some, like the Catholics teach that sprinkling or only anointing the infants head is correct, while the Baptists accept only total immersion. Also some feel the need to baptize infants, others believe that infants cannot sin and should not be a baptized until they can understand the concept of sin and actually commit sin. Also the Bible mentions additional books of scripture that are now lost so it cannot be complete.

This happens because the church leaders lost the ability to receive revelation from God as to the meaning of the scritpures or to answer doctrinal questions. Even today there is only one church that claims direct and continued revelation from God, most do not and some claim it is not necessary and that the heavens are closed.

I personally believe the Bible to be correct only where it has been translated correctly. That is another issue. None of the New testament books exist in the language they were originally written in so there were also translation errors.

Please excuse the spelling, typing, and gramatical errors in this answer as it is early and the writer is in a hurry.

We should. There is a trend in the church(liberalism) which doesn't believe in the authority and accuracy of the Bible. Those people I think may want to be Christian, but without knowing what to believe, what can they possibly believe?
We don't get to pick and choose.

it varies from person to person, some beleive everything word for word (the more fanatic types), some beleive a few things word for word and other things more as metaphores, and some just see the bible as a guidebook filled with symbols and metaphores.
