if your child went missing would you wash the last thing that they had held ie a teddy. even if it was covered in dribble and sun tan lotion.
kate mccann states that the teddy was was in bed with maddy when they left her, but on finding her missing the teddy was on a shelf that the toddler could not of reached so whoever took her placed it there! (that alone is hard to believe). if what she says is true why wash it as it may have held DNA clues of the abductor.
i am a father and just cannot understand why she would want to erase the scent of maddy.

The sad thing for me is that I have watched both parents on the television and really hoped and believed that it wasn't them - but, this is the strangest thing to do. I can't imagine a mother taking the most precious thing her daughter had and washing it. It just doesn't make sense and this action alone has made me re-think the whole position.

It will be so tragic if it turns out to be them - they are doctors and I know that they probably have to deal with alot of difficult circumstances to do with deaths and illnesses but I have found that they have been totally removed emotionally from the fact that their daughter is missing. I have hardly (if at all) seem the mother shed a tear. WEIRD

I totally agree with you and the majority of people who have answered you so far. The scent of your child is the most precious memory a parent can ever have and to erase it at such a traumatic time is totally incredulous. What also bothers me more about the whole scenario is that neither parent of Madaleine showed real emotion over her abduction. If it were me I would be inconsolable and unable to speak about her without dissolving into floods of tears. The pain would be gut-wrenching and I would not be able to talk to the world's press like they did so articulately without breaking down. They seem very detached even in the early days. Only they know what really happened that night and my only wish is that this lovely child is still alive, well and shortly to be found. Everyone please, please keep looking for her and Dear Father God protect her from any harm.

If this happened to me, then I would never wash anything in that room until I had no other choice. I would not be able to even bring myself to vacuum, dust, or wash the windows bc there are still traces of my child there. There is no way that I could do such a thing no matter how dirty it was. If there was a chance that someone else touched my child's sleeping buddy, I would turn it in to authorities for full testing, and be sure that I got it back, but I still do not think I could wash it. You are right. There is something fishy going on there. No parent would do such a thing.

weird! Abductors dont clean up the room after themselves. Who else tidies up after kids but their mum? Including washing the toys, specially if they have got other sorts of dirt on them....

But then how stupid would you be if you told about the teddy being in bed with the child then finding it on the shelf after she'd been taken, if it was you what did it? And that you had washed it?

Depends actually...perhaps she is saving it for the twins? I am a mother also and find it totally horrible hearing of 'all' of these mom's and dad's that can actually KILL their children. I pray that they had nothing to do with this...remember they did get to see the Pope on this situation. God help them if they did it. Maybe she was just confused about the teddy. Who 'really' knows?

I never would have washed it. But the thing is, women tend not to be rational creatures, and when confronted with an irrational situation (like having a missing child) they can be even more irrational in their actions, trying to seek comfort in them. So washing it may not be rational, but it not being rational sort of works in her favour.

When my sister died (hit by a drunk driver) the first thing my mother did was get rid of all of her things. This angered and dismayed me, I simply thought this was so utterly cruel. How could any mother rid herself of everything belonging to a child she claimed to love? But to, her this was the only way she felt she could deal with it at the time.

The thing that puzzles me is why was a teddy washed in the first place?

I have never heard of anyone washing their bears, ever!
