Acura has never made a truck.
Try a 2007 Ford Ranger with 29 MPG:

A 2007 Chevy Colorado / GMC Canyon with 26/28 MPG is great and slightly larger than the Ranger.

May your choice be the best.

I think your instincts are correct. If you want to spend about $5000 you are looking for something used with some mileage on it. In that case, you cannot go wrong with a Toyota or Honda. Consumer Reports just did their annual review of cars and ranked the top 10 cars likely to last for 100k miles. Every model was a Toyota, Honda, or Nissan product.

When buying a car like this, reliability and repair record are key. If you do your homework and keep up with the maintenance, you will get way more than 3 years out of a vehicle.

They don't make fuel efficient trucks any more, and Acura has never made a truck. If you want one that gets good gas mileage, the best you can do now is a Ford Ranger 4-cyl. That's the smallest truck you can buy in the USA, anyway.
