and do you believe that they are specific priveleged groups that are benneficiaries of the opression of the other groups, and that they do not typically understand themselves to be agents of oppression?

If the conflicts are of a religious nature, sure, religion plays an oppressive role. Getting rid of the rulers or making new laws would not help due to the impression made on new electees by the old obsolete generation.

There would have to be some privileged groups that are the beneficiaries of the oppressing of the other groups, I think that goes without argument, But no, I do not think they see themselves as the agents of oppression. Where it concerns religion, they see them selves as zealots.

Thats not a real question because you are giving yourself the answer already. If a conflict is about religion then of course the religion will be oppressive. That is like asking "is violence oppressive in violent conflicts?" or "is the round Earth round?". You are giving yourself an answer already because you already have an opinion and not a question and then thinking yourself clever when really it is just a way to manipulate people.
