How do I get the thing home by driving it? The car will not be in my name yet and I actually plan on driving it straight to the Clerks office in my city to get the title transfered as well as tag. Problem is though, the tag I will put on the car expired in July. Do I need to get that renewed first? I do not have the car the tag is registered to anymore, does that matter?

You rent a U Haul trailer to haul the car on, but you need a big strong vehicle (like a truck) to pull the trailer home. Otherwise you have to do all the title transfer and registration in advance of picking it up. To appreciate the possibilities of the legal liability you have, what if you run into a school bus and kill a bunch of kids with the car while your driving it illegally? You could end up ruining your life for the sake of getting the car a few days early. Take your time doing it right and enjoy the car!
