For the same reasons that I am supposed to take evolutionists/ Science fundamentalists words seriously apparently. You really should look into what is being said and realize that it is all propaganda from all sides. Look into all sides and find what actually is being said and then decide, talk to actual experts in each field because I can almost guarantee that you are not an expert in all branches of science and theology. I did that, went to professors at my school and grilled them and the religious ones actually made the most sense and what they said best fit the evidence presented.

You should only take their words seriously when their words match up with the whole counsel of what is taught in the Bible. There are a lot of people who make claims about themselves and what faith they profess to be a follower of. In each group there are people who are making a true claim and others who have made a mere profession of faith. Then in each of those sub-groups are different levels of education and understanding.

It's like if you asked a question of two different students in a school district, one of whom was a senior valedictorian in the high school and one of whom was an inattentive first grader who only went to school because he or she wanted to play with their friends. It shouldn't surprise you to find that you got different answers to the same questions from both students of the same school district. In order to determine who was giving you the correct answer you would have to look at the text books from which they were being taught. That's why I say that when it comes to Evangelists / Bible fundamentalists you should only take their words seriously when their words match up with the whole counsel of what is taught in the Bible

Because almost ALL the greatest minds in history for the last 1800 years were Evangelical, Bible-believing Christians? Is THAT a good reason? Or are you more brilliant than all the collective wisdomof all of humanity for the last couple thousand years?

People may make mistakes in their readings or understandings, but by and large we all pretty much agree on all major doctrines.
Why take us seriously? Probably because we have studied the Bible, and know the God that wrote it.
Whether or not you take us seriously is not such a great concern, what IS a concern, is that you would take God seriously.

When someone uses the word "they", it usually is a generalization that borders on prejudice - that is, judging the many by the actions (or words) of a few.

Please don't fall into that trap. If someone contradicts himself, if someone doesn't measure up to some standard you have, if someone fails to "walk the walk".....please don't throw a blanket of scorn over an entire group.

But beyond that, please understand that Christians are not perfect. We are forgiven and loved by God and God is working in our hearts and lives but we have not "arrived" yet.

And remember that there is one and only one who is perfect, who never sinned, who loves with a perfect love and speaks with perfect truthfulness... His name is Jesus.

god bless

A.) I don't contradict myself, and

B.) Don't take anything "they" say seriously; it's obvious you're looking for excuses to "blaze your own path" in life. Have at it. Enjoy yourself. Just don't whimper and whine before God when He asks you if it was worth it.
