Hi PastorSauce (good name by the way!)
I don't consider myself a christian & i do not believe in the Christian God, and i do not believe that Jesus was the son of God.
But, i have read some of the Bible - the new testament only - and only the gospels of matthew, mark, luke etc.

It seems to be easy for some people to pick out quotes from the bible, using them in isolation, and taking them literally for their own purposes, without keeping the whole Christian message in mind and without understanding the context in which they were written.

I happen to think that Jesus was an amazing person with an amazing & beautiful message... unfortunately this message has been corrupted by many people over the years, and his name has been used to kill people, torture people and to start wars.

I use the words that Jesus actually spoke to help me in life... i find his words powerful and deeply spiritual, in a human sense, not a God sense.

His words are kind, compassionate, caring, accepting, forgiving and healing... all the best human qualities.

His message was very powerful and gives hope and comfort to me, even though i do not believe in God.

I find that, for me, believing in Jesus as a man, not a God, is very powerful, because i don't have to worry about having doubts about the unknown. Even if Jesus was not real, even if it is JUST a story, as some people believe, then it doesnt matter for me... his story is real and powerful and i can make use of it. I believe in the story.

Personally, I disregard the rest of the bible... i use Jesus's words and compassion to help me through my life.

I take what the Bible says in the whole context of God's Word. I understand that God gave special laws to the Israelites that were meant for them alone during a period of time when God was separating a people unto Himself through whom He would reveal the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

I "believe" the whole book, but I read it with understanding that comes from being a born again Christian in whom the Spirit of the Living God of Heaven dwells. Here's how someone who is not a Christian but who is open to learning the truth can, at least on an intellectual level, see why men and women of faith can rationally believe the Bible to be the Inspired Word of God.

Interesting how we get accused of only following bits and pieces and then non-believers help us out by showing us the blood, guts and gore.

Seems to me the Bible is mighty transparent and doesn't try to avoid the dark spots. Says something about the honesty of the book, because I'm sure if MAN was the author, he'd have no motivation for recording that which makes his religion look bad.

sorta like the Bible has no problem airing its dirty history for the world to see. Can't say that about much else. We write history that is favorable, and then scholars have to work hard to show us what's not being shown. Seems the Bible goes out of its way to show the stain as well as the Glory.

Once I understood what Jesus meant when He said that the kingdom of God is within us, and thatThe Holy Spirit would reveal all truth to us, the bible became worse than unnecessary. It is not reliable. Jesus confirms this in The Apocryphon of John. Jesus and The Holy Spirit never lie and they know everything that we need to know. Whatever is consistant with what Jesus taught and practiced is the real deal. Moses had no clue who God is.

Matthew is hyperbole. Jesus is not telling humans to reduce off their hands however exaggerating to make a factor. The Bible does not say no meat on Friday. That was once a rule by means of the Catholic Church. Most of the Bible charges you indexed are out of context and that distorts their that means. Check out Gay Christian Network for a few suggestions of bridging the hole.

I have never read any one particular bible. I don't believe in organized religion. I don't think you can"buy" your way into heaven? Isn't there a well known prayer that says something about "heaven on earth"?
When I seek God, I look within. The answers are always there. Sometimes I fight them, I want things, "my way" or different then the way they are suppose to be. When I accept my life for being just that, my life, that's where I find God. God created us so he could LOVE us. Not to punish not to judge, just to love.
As for "the bible" its just here say, what "they" say- whoever they are.

I believe, but do not choose "bits' The Bible is meant to be taken as a whole, and not to "pick and choose: what parts you believe in. However, people should realize that much is is also symbolic, such as The Book of Revelations.

God has given us the "literal truth", but the images are left for individual interpretation. I don't think this book was really meant to be understood, but rather, it was written as a warning to keep watch always. For those who did not keep watch , the theif comes to them.

I found most of the Christians I have met to choose the bits they like and disregard anything they don't based on personal preferences.

It is called hypocrisy my friend, to claim to be something you don't even agree with.

Then, what bothers me the most, is that they keep saying that the Bible, that contains many things they disagree with, is the truth and then try to shove it down people's throat.

I have to say i don't believe in the bible. However i will not condemn or criticise those that do. We all have free will to choice and that's fine. I do object however, to people telling me i am wrong because they know best. ....Eh...
