Eric Hoffer said " To have grievance is to have a purpose in life".
Is that true? If yes, how could grievance be a purpose in life?

"grievance" here is to be interpreted in a broader sense - dissatisfaction about something that you would like to see changed. It's about using that burning desire to motivate and imbibe passion. The core idea is that without a driving passion, we are not fulfilling our purpose in life. No matter how small or big, how noble or common, to have a cause that drives you to be as good at it as you could possibly be. Could be your job, your hobby, your sport, your school.

Eric Hoffer was an extremely wise man for someone with no more than a sixth grade education, and blind from birth until he was fifteen. And yes, he is correct. Having a grievance about ones condition in life either on the economic or social scale can serve as the prime motivator to better ones predicament. If you have it, read pages 31-37 in "The True Believer". It explains this question rather nicely.

Eric Hoffer needs his head examined.
