Why do people find it necessary to be abusive?

Question

I answered a question in what i thought was a sensible way, and i got told I was a stupid cow, now i don't know about you i find this sort of thing offensive. I am neither stupid nor do i eat grass. For the first time on this site since i joined, i reported the person because strangely enough it upset me. I am not thin skinned, but why is it necessary to use this sort of language.

I will try and be more circumspect in future.

Perhaps next time and there won't be one Man at large, or Dr John whatever, i will steer clear of you.

People who answer in this way have problems of their own and their own inadequacies and have to take it out on other people. Don't worry about it - just think of them being really bitter in their life and know that you are not the same!

This is an open forum. So, since it is a good representation of the general public, you will get your rude abusive share of individuals. Fortunately, they do not outweigh the individuals with something decent to say.

Most of these abusive people are doing so to get their kicks off. It's their sodistic way of releasing pent up anger- though be it in a cowardly way, since they hide behind a computer screen. But that is the type of power the cyberworld gives. It's similar to a kid playing violent video games. It wouldn't surprise me if these same individuals were the quiet insecure type, because most openly abusive people would not need to come onto the internet to be abusive.

YOU are too intelligent to waste time on some "foolishness." That's why we are answering questions on this website, so that we can be of help to each other. There will always be someone who wants to belittle another person. The person who wrote that to you "suffers" from low intelligence and low self-esteem. Don't let anyone upset you. Some people don't like it if you're opinion is different to theirs.I've been reported before now for saying that a certain lifestyle is abhorrent to most decent people.It was true, but one of the 'exponents' took offence and cowardly reported me.
Take no notice, that type of person is a waste of space and is certainly not worth worrying about.

I think that people get nasty on this site because they largely get away with it. The worst that can happen is they're reported, and their profile is deleted, and it's easy enough to set up another one. However, if the lawmakers at Yahoo Answers were to physically go to your house and confront you (well, not you particularly, but you get what I mean) about it, you'd get a bit of a shock and would be less likely to be mean again.

for the same reason that people feel the need to rectify spelling mistakes but not actually answer the questions. they aer either trying to bump up their points?????? (there is no prize for the most points) or they have issues of their own and here is the only place they can vent their frustrations albeit at the wrong people.

i find nowadays on the whole people are nice but there will always be a minority who are selfish and rude that spoil things for others and i find that a little sad

I have found that the people that are the most abusive on here are the ones that do not have any type of life outside of the Yahoo Q&A chatline. They are abusive because in reality they can do this and no one knows who they are, because of this they feel invisible and untouchable.

If on the other hand, they were to be discovered as to who they were and where they lived, they would get quieter than a church mouse and never make a peep again. Usually people that do this are cowards in the real world, so don't pay them any attention, your on a higher intelligence level then they will ever be, don't lower yourself down to their miserable level.

People are abusive because they themselves are inadequate.The fact that you may prefer grass is immaterial,and no excuse for bad behaviour.Anyone should flag badly answered questions,one sillable answers and abuse.Some people are giving answers ,who have no idea of the true meaning of the question.Smutty questions,or statements of crude sexual innuendo are also worthy of a flag,the old days have gone.Yahoo are now making a genuine effort to respond to peoples complaints.Good for you,for reporting them,have a big star from me.

teddy, you are absolutely right. Worst than Yahoo Answers is YouTube. At least in Y.Answers reports of abuse are taken seriously by Yahoo. YouTube seem to like it. Reports are ignored and the language and insults a real show.

Iknow how you feel i always try to give a good answer if i know it and you get remarks back that are horrible it just goes to show that the people that give rude answers to the questions given dont know the answer in the 1st place and the other thing is that they need to grow up a bit try not to let this worry you they dont know who you are and you dont know them there just sad bored people i ignore them now or mark them down as bad answers .take care Debbie x

unfortunately you cant express humour with written text-some people can take things the wrong way without expression, like when you send a sms on yr phone people read things different to how it was intended to come across.
I know it can be upsetting, as at the end of the day this site is here for "your" opinion, take it on the chin love x x x
