I attend weekend Zen retreats (called a "sesshin") 4 times per year. Although I've missed a few, I've been doing this regularly since 2001.

Different religions and different denominations have different types of retreats. I know of a monastery in Louisiana, where when you park your car in the parking lot and walk through the gates, you speak to no one. These sessions usually last for a week. The Baptists and Methodists have retreats in North Carolina and New Mexico, where you go to learn different areas of their denomination. They are uplifting and very beneficial.
